Twin Strike and Careful Strike Question.

In almost every way twin strike is different than careful strike.

There are a number of suggestions, but you actually ahve to give a very large boost to careful strike to keep it competitive.

Did you mean better? I could not find a way that careful strike was better except for rare (very rare) circumstances.

At high levels, when you have more feats & bonuses which add damage to your Twin Strike's lone 1[w] (no Dex), the difference is even more obvious.

I have an idea, feel free to shoot it down. Rangers are "suppose" to have at least ok to better Wisdom.

Careful Attack Ranger
You study the enemy, looking for a gap in his defenses. Only
when you find it do you strike.

At-Will, Martial,Weapon
Standard Action Melee or Ranged weapon
Requirement: You must be wielding two melee weapons or a ranged weapon.
Target: One creature
Attack:
Strength + 2 + Wis Mod vs. AC (melee) or
Dexterity + 2 + Wis Mod vs. AC (ranged).
Hit: 1[W] damage (melee) or 1[W] damage (ranged).
Increase damage to 2[W] (melee) or 2[W] (ranged) at 21st
level.

If you do that, will you change the fighter's sure strike as well?

I think it needs to be changed, but with the fighter's it isn't as easy.

Do you give + Wis Mod, + Con Mod, or something else.

Edit: Maybe STR+2 vs AC, roll attack twice, use better result.

But sure strike actually isn't bad all the time compared to reaping strike, the alternative.

I think just making fighters worse at doing damage with at-wills in comparison to rangers isn't that bad a deal.

How about have it ignore cover and concealment? (not total) So you get a fairly common situational bonus that is competitive with twin strike... if it has both you're effectively getting another +4 (+6 total) over Twin Strike.

How about also the target gets a -5 to Stealth checks against you until end of next round, since you're studying it so carefully... could be really useful if Stealth in combat is so uber as the CSRs seem to think. ;)

I actually like this. It makes the tradeoff between hitting and damaging a lot closer between Careful Attack and Twin Strike. Careful Attack becomes actually more likely to hit, which Twin Strike has a higher damage potential.

Instead of having two competing at-will powers for the ranger, they could have exchanged careful strike with something completely different. It is stupid to have two powers that only differs by to-hit chance.
