Two 20s, no 1s - how often do you use altered dice?

Most of our group is 30+ When the topic came up at my gaming table, my response was "If anyone here is cheating at this age, we're not going to be able to stop them now."
As many bad rolls as happen at our table, if there's any cheatin' going on, these guys just don't know how to do it. I mostly roll behind my screen and keep the dice as they fall, good or bad. On occasion during a big combat, I'll come from behind the screen with a handful of d20's and roll em' in the open.(They think there is fudging in their favor going on behind the screen, so they kind of groan when I come out to roll in the open)

In my younger days, I went so far as to roll many d6's 100 times each and record the rolls, and find the die with the highest average roll(numbering each). The combined stat rolls, while using them to roll up characters, didn't seem to change much with the averaged die. But to go out and buy fudged die with the intent of using in the game? Never.

I'd remove a cheater on the spot ...

See, this is where I have a hard time believing. (No offense intended at Haradim; he's just the latest example.) Because after years of observing you folks at ENwoild, I know that the overwhelming majority of ya are do-gooder, nice-nice, give-em-a-chance, social players. "Immediate ejection" is as likely, given the collective profile here, as becoming a gen-u-wine wizard. I just don't see it. Sounds like a lot of well-intentioned posturing.

REmember, people act differently on the net theyn they do in real life. While you might think you know someone through their posts, its really is but the smallest glimpse into how they really are. I suprised more then a few people at Gen Con last year with how I actually am.

Call people liars much? I have, on multiple occasions, ejected people from my game. I've got no problem at all doing so.

It's a matter of respect and fun - by cheating, you're disrespecting the GM/DM and the other players, by placing your fun above theirs. And what's the point of doing so? Are you going to 'win'? Spare me.

In any case, Driddle, you have no evidence of what people do at their tables. As Crothian pointed out net != the real world. Get your facts straight before making such broad statements. You have a right to an informed opinion, emphasis on the informed.

Though I can't deny being totally apart from that archetype, if asked, I also wouldn't deny having a rather significant cold streak in me.

But even if I didn't, I can't abide cheaters. I dislike playing with them, and I certainly don't want anyone breaking the rules of my own games, and gaining dishonest advantages over the other players. I'm not afraid to get rid of someone like that, because I already don't consider them a player worth having in the first place.

"So who's that guy? Don't say much, do he? Haven't heard a word from him all night..."
"That's Crothian."
"Get away!"

When I was younger and immature (read "teenager") I fudged some rolls as a player, especially in games where fumbles could mean death. It wasn't often, and I certainly didn't have loaded dice! As a DM at any age I've always reserved the right to change a number for dramatic effect... usually to allow a player a chance to retreat and regroup instead of being a puddle of bloody, dead goo on the floor.

Now, I'm 36 years young, and have no need to cheat or fudge as a player. I can take the bad with the good, and the loss of a character is no big deal. (Tho I think RIFTS made me grow up fast... damn but i died on a monthly basis). I kinda resent the assumption that ALL players cheat. Just because YOU cheat does not mean the rest of the players out there are made in your image. If they were there would be little point to gaming at all.

Just my humble 2-cents.

Altered dice, never seen one in my life. Being a GM although, I do cheat it seems a few times a game, in the players favor when its that or die. Like I remember in our last session, our main hero was locked up in an Imperial officer's embassy, strapped down to a chair about to be executed by a beautiful mistress. He had rolled a 3 on his escape check, and right when he was about to die, I had one of the other heroes bust into the room and tore the woman apart. I try to keep it to a minimum though, as I like my d20 as honest as possible.

I don't use latered dice, nor do I alter dice rolls. As someone else said, you're only cheating yourself. I also try not to misapply the rules or let it go on by others. It really destroys the framework of the game.

I would be completely flabberghasted if someone at my gaming table was using loaded dice.

I have only known one person in our games who even owned any, and that's because she bought pretty much any odd die she could get her hands on. She never used them.

I am pretty much in agreement that if we caught someone using loaded dice, they would not be invited back. I only game with friends, and thankfully, my friends are not cheaters...

Edited for typo...
