Two CSI Actors Fired !!

I'll miss Nick, but Sara's absence won't bother me nearly as much; IMO, she's the most disposable character on the show. For the last season or so, it seems that Sara's only role in the series has been to provide a potential romantic interest for Grissom.

I wonder how the writers will explain the absence of the two characters. I recall Kim Delany's character vanished rather abruptly after the premiere of CSI: Miami. If the rumors are true, Kim Delany was removed from the cast of CSI: Miami because David Caruso didn't want to share the spotlight with any other famous actors (and I'm inclined to believe this, because I've heard from numerous sources that David Caruso is an egotistical jerk in real life).

I predict that the writers will decide that Sara finally burned out and quit (Grissom was always telling her to take a vacation because he didn't want her to burn out), while Nick got transfered to a different police department. I'm also predicting that Greg will become a full-time CSI rather than a lab tech to replace one of the two.

George Eads, the actor who played Nick, is from my hometown. He is several years younger than me. In fact, his mother was one of my high school English teachers.

To be fair, I don't believe this was the case this time. Caruso has supposedly mellowed out a great deal since his career vanished for several years straight. And I read on several different entertainment news sites that Delany was having difficulty with the character and wanted off the show for her own reasons.

It's also worth mentioning that she was a last-minute addition to the show in the first place, and was not popular with many of the fans. Few tears were shed when she left.

Regarding the Nick/Sarah issue, I'm disappointed. While I agree that they're less vital than Gil, Catherine, or Warrick, it's only by very small degrees. The investigation angle may be the focus of the show, but it's the characters who drive it, and the show will be much poorer for their absence.

I think it's a blow the show can survive, if they get interesting replacement characters, but I'd prefer it not have to. (OTOH, if the show ever lost Grissom, that's it. Pack it up, pass the torch to CSI: Miama and CSI: New York, and go home.)

Incidentally, I wonder if the network saw this coming. They've been moving Greg into more of a spotlight position for a year now, and they ended the season with a story that could easily explain Sarah's disappearance. I wonder if they expected to have holes to fill?

$100k an ep ($2.2 million a season) for 5-10 mins of screentime and they were still under contract. Man...

I really don't think it'll affect the show much. Most of the time the cast was just there to explain some forensic technique.

I don't recall Kim Delaney's character from CSI: Miami. Which one was it? I vaguely recall Horatio getting a letter telling him not to contact her, but aside from that, I have no memory of her character.

Sarah Sidle aka Stalker - Chick.

I'm actually very surprised at everyones reaction.
Although the show is plot driven, it's not nearly as much as Law & Order (my favorite show). The show could never endure the loss of Grissom, while Law & Order has changed cast members many times (still, I predict the loss of Jerry Orbach will be tough - I appologize for misspelling his name).

I'll admit Nick was very two - dimensional; him leaving will cause nary a ripple, and easily explained. As he didn't get the CSI three position (due to budget cuts) he probably would seek it elsewear.

Sarah Sidle is another story. She was there as a romantic interest for Grissom. In the episode where the lab explosion injured her hand she followed him around for the whole time (we started calling her 'stalker-chick'), finally asking Grissom out at the end. I envisioned him turning her down as the reason she started drinking.

There were all kinds of little hints about them. Recently, She spouted insect trivia, then explained that Grissom gave her an entomology book for Christmas; the rest of the crew looked at each other and commented how he never gave them Christmas presents
After she was caught in the lab explosion, Grissom ran over, checked her hand, and called her 'honey' (you had to be listening to catch it).

Lots of tiny things like that. I had hoped the drinking problem would finally bring them together; I'm a romantic at heart. Grissom was appearently her teacher in College, she followed him to Los Vegas.
Maybe it's just because I'm 11 years older than the woman I love, but I wanted to see it happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if the two end up coming back- from what I can tell, this is all just negotiation tactics. George and Jorja were holding out for more money/contract renegotiation, and the network isn't having any of it. Though they've been "fired", I could certainly see negotiations so that they end up coming back, if not right away, at least later in the season.

That being said, I'll be very disappointed if neither character does come back. Might even stop watching the show. Not because I like the characters so much that it would ruin it for me, but because it is a character driven show, and the dynamics of the characters, *added* to their relationships with the other characters, is what makes the show for me. I do like the characters, but I just like the way the show is set up, and how they all play off one another. It just wouldn't be quite the same if you threw in some new people now. (As opposed to a show like L&O, where the show is story driven, and the characters- while lovable- aren't the integral components to the story.)

It would be very easy to explain their absences, though. Have Sara booted for her drinking and driving (or just have her leave due to her personal troubles), and have Nick accept a promotion in some other CSI office somewhere.
