Two Daredevil reviews

It's cool to hate.

There seems to be a tendency amoung most people to say anything they don't like, no matter the reason, is bad or sucks and this often leads to their hating it.

Yea what he said.

He's a handsome, rich, egotistical, drunken actor with a high profile serious relationship with another famous celebrity(and he's dating J LO too, Jenifer Lopes to all those not down with the street lingo). What's not to hate? If I become rich and famous I will expect and welcome all the hate filled jelousy I can get.

To each his own I guess. I find it's easier to just like or dislike someone's (an actor's) work than hate them out of hand. Now if I met a person that was an ass to me or something akin to that then there are some grounds for hate. His personal life is his own and I'm sure he's got his demons. I couldn't care less who he's dating or what ever else he's doing.

And to quote Newsradio, "If life was fair there wouldn't be rich people." He's got $$, big deal. If he keeps chosing to be in entertaining movies then he will continue to make $$. Just the way things are. I'd rather worry about my own life than his. Even if it's for a second.

I guess the answer is: What's the fun in that? I know many folks get off on it. I just figure I've got better things to do. :)

I don't follow the peronal lives of actors so I'm a bit in the dark here. Is Affleck an alcholic or arrested for drunk driving or something?

And I'm not a fan of Affleck either. He seems like a nice guy in interviews, but as an actor he's always, well, Ben Affleck, if you know what I mean. In the trailers and sneak previews I've seen, his portrayal of Matt Murdock (Daredevil's secret identity, a blind lawyer) seems like any other Ben Affleck role except in sunglasses.

OTOH, and actor I do hate is Val Kilmer. I don't think I've ever seen a nice thing said about him. On the set of The Island Of Dr. Moreau, Brando said to him, "You're confusing your talent with your paycheck."

It was also on that film that a camera man alleges that he put out a cigarette on his face. Kilmer, however, says he merely flicked in the camera man's face. See, he's not a jerk.

I knew someone who work in the crew on a Stallone picture and she said that he was the biggest jerk she'd ever met (Kurt Russell was the nicest, btw). The director of Judge Dredd hated him so much that he swore off working with A list actors (Sly apparently rewrote the movie as they were filming to the point that the director claims it's nothing like the original script).

Anyway, getting back to DD, I'm keeping an open mind, but I'm not too optimistic.

Obviously, I'm not too thrilled with the lead.

I've also seen some clips, including a fight between DD and Elecktra, which wasn't encouraging. First, it was shot too close with too much slo-mo. Also the music, hip hop with a very slow beat, really didn't work for a fight scene. It seemed as inappropriate as Dueling Banjos in the finale of Conan.

I'm hoping the full fight is better. Since the movie hasn't been released, yet, the music might change, and, possibly, the camera is pulled back for the rest of the fight, and it doesn't overuse the slo-mo. It may just be a bad piece of the fight we saw...but I'm worried that may not be the case.

And the costume designer needs to be beaten over the head with something large and heavy. The DD uniform looks good from a distance, but what's up with that collar? Have you seen the clips with it open? Dear God, it looks ugly.

I suppose we should be lucky that they went with the one they did. I saw some sketches in a magazine of some other possiblites, and they were unbelievably bad. One looked like the leather guy from The Village People. No joke. It was all black, bare chested, and with a very, how should I put this, effeminate-looking leather jacket (it really looked like it was made for a woman).

No shirt?! And I thought that the nipples on Batman were bad!

The new Bullseye looks really dumb with that tattoo or scar or whatever it's supposed to be. Why couldn't he wear his costume?

Okay, I know that there will be people who say that what looks good in comics would look stupid on the screen, but I have to disagree. Look at Spider-Man and Superman, two of the most comic booky suits around, and they worked. I'd have like to have seen an attempt to recreate Bullseye's costume, even if it was slightly modified like Batman and The Flash.

But, I'm afraid that the costumes may be symptomatic of a much larger issue.

I remember reading an interview with the writer of that Captain America film. He talked about how he thought the costume was silly, so he tried to keep Cap in regular clothes as long as possible. I'm worried that this may be what's going on here: The producers are embarrassed that they are doing a comic book movie.

I hope I'm wrong about this. :(

EDIT: And I know I started by saying that I didn't follow the personal lives of actors and then talked about Kilmer and Stallone. I didn't seek these tidbits out, mind you. They were in interviews and news (the camera man sued Kilmer) and a conversation with someone who worked on the set of a movie.

Well actually I was joking, but that's beside the point I guess, I really could care less about him at all I have never seen the first movie or show or anything at all he has ever been even a part of, his dating life is so overpublished that I don't need to care about it to know it (I believe he was quoted as saying he didn't understand why his dating JLO got so much press with everything else going on in the world right now). You could check out the A list page to see what they say about him but that would be digging. He is a recovering alcoholic, and he does have a bad rep for being rude. But once again to each his own, there is a multibillion dollar industry built up on following famous people around and getting the scoop on their life, and it's not the gossip pages, check out the ratings for the Michael Jackson special that was on 20/20. Part of being Famous is well being famous, it comes with it, most of these people get into this to become famous, if they didn't want all the attention then they got into the wrong line of work.

Hey a friend of mine e-mailed me the fake poster and I thought it was funny, that is all there was to it, no personal attacks by me, no wasting of my time digging up dirt on him, I actually could care less I just thought the poster was funny.

S'all good. I got a chuckle out of it.

BTW, my post wasn't directed at you altho it was inspired by the picture you posted. I just think it's hilarious at all the media that is spun around these people. I know exactly why it happens and I certainly don't feel sorry for all the scrutiny famous folks get. They are paid well enough for it. I just don't get the hate. There is too much other bad stuff going on to worry about such petty things. My post was more of just a statement/rant/personal feeling I had when I was posting. Don't be offended. ;)

It's hard to take seriously a site that alleges that 99% of Hollywood is comprised of gay drug addicts. :)

The funny thing is that it is taken pretty seriously, it's a fairly well known site and I have seen it refered too in several places as being fairly accurate. It does start off with a big disclaimer that it is based on gossip and you have to take their word for it that they are reliable sources, but it is still a fun read.

Well seen it and my feelings are mixed. Doesn't have much narrative momentum as in I don't where the movie is going. Some nice set pieces, and Colin Farrell almost steals the show.

HOWEVER, Elektra isn't the kick-ass warrior she should be. And the movie spends a lot of time on the origin story of Daredevil as well as the 'setup'. By the time they've done, there's not much time left.

Like From Hell and too many other comic adaptations, I found the comics more compelling than the movie.

embarrassed to do a comic book movie

Both of the Captain America movies were really bad and it shows that they were uncomfortable writing about the subject and really didn't know what they were doing.

Its very easy to do a Captain America movie; it can be done on a low budget since you don't really need super powers. And yet both movie teams totally screwed up.
