Two feats every rogue must have

Shape Soulmeld: Shadow Mantle

Open Lesser chakra: shoulders

So, with these two feats, at 12th level, every rogue with a Con score of 15 can get:

- a +1 insight bonus on his Reflex saves

- a sort of Invisibility, Greater at will

Would you allow them in your campaign?

Yep.

Two feats is a considerable investment in character abilities.

+1 bonus to Reflex saves is hardly game breaking (compare to Lightning Reflexes or FR's Luck of Heroes)

And the invisibility schtik is pretty old hat by then. IMC the rogue is constantly getting it anyway from the wizard.

Uhm?

A permanent invisibility, greater from his wiz ally?

An invisibility, greater that cannot be removed, that he can't lose, and so on?

Sorry, but I can't agree.

Greater Invisibility at will sounds like an ability any character would want. Unless the prerequisites are very high or there are some limitations on its use it sounds too strong.

Well, the soulmeld doesn't grant you exactly the same effect as Grater Invisibility, but it's close.

It basically grants you an area of complete darkness (not as the spell) around you, and gives you blindsight that extends in the same darkened area.

In this way, you are invisible to and can see near enemies, while foes that are far from you are invisible to you while they can guess where you are inside the darkened area.

Except... that isn't what he was getting now then, was it?

Fro those interested, these feats are from Magic of Incarnum.

- I'm inclined to say that you need a third feat that actually grants you essentia to use this "combo". The globe of darkness that you can create has a radius of 5 feet per essentia invested into the Shadow Mantle, and neither of the feats grants essentia.
- The globe of darkness will act as a nice beacon for area of effect spells and abilities. Sure, a rogue is strong against most of those, but if used in masses...
- The soulmeld can be dispelled like a magical item.
- If these feats are available, chances are that other material from Magic of Incarnum are available, as well, for friend or foe. There can be some enemies who will be able to battle the soulmeld's effect.
- While the Soulmeld is bound to your shoulders, you cannot benefit from magical cloaks, capes or mantles.
