Two-hand wielding

I'm considering this house rule: change the text "When you deal damage with a weapon that you are wielding two-handed, you add 1-1/2 times your Strength bonus. However, you don’t get this higher Strength bonus when using a light weapon with two hands" to "When you deal damage with a weapon that you are wielding two-handed, you add 1-1/2 times your Strength bonus, with a minimum of 1 damage greater than if you had been wielding the weapon one-handed. However, you don’t get this higher Strength bonus when using a light weapon with two hands." Basically, a character with 13 Str wielding a longsword two-handed would do 1d8+2 damage, and a character with 8 Str would do 1d8+0. I think there should be at least some benefit for wielding a weapon two-handed, even if you don't have at least 14 Str.

I'm not about to change my game about it, but I agree with you 100% about how two handing should give you some kind of bonus even though you suffer from low strength.

I considered that as well. However, I think I declined due to the fact that it would give all two-handed weapons a +1 damage. I do like the idea of it removing one point of strenth penalty for those with <10 str but only for one-handed weapons wielded two-handed, not for normal two-handed weapons.

It only gives a +1 to damage if you have <14 str. Almost no-one who is a dedicated two-handed weapon fighter is going to have less than 14 strength (unless maybe you're a kobold). This will mostly only affect mooks and weak characters. I just don't think it's reasonable that you have to have 14+ Str to get an advantage to wielding a weapon two-handed (ignoring disarm/sunder).
