D&D 5E Tyranny of Dragons D&D minis

As long as we're done with the spiky-armored dungeon-punkery, I'll be happy. I mean, jeez, I can't even remember the last time D&D's art style resembled decent fantasy art.

Oh, wait, yes I can: back when TSR was publishing 2nd edition.

after 7 mini kickstarters (including bones and bones 2) I doubt I need anything...

having said that what would make me spend money like a fool? well I agree with Darksun, just in general more barbaric PCs would be cool. Tiamat (Size huge or bigger) would take my money, but really the new heroforge might make this all moot...https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/heroforge/customizable-3d-printed-tabletop-miniatures?ref=users

Same. I happily backed this and will be making use of it, especially as time goes on and they expand their customized options. This is the future of miniatures, in my opinion.

And I will objectively tell you you're mistaken. If for no other reason than the fact that several artists for 3e and 4e also worked on 1e and 2e (including, but not limited to, Larry Elmore, Jeff Easley, Brom, Tom Baxa, Tony DiTerlizzi, Wayne Reynolds and Todd Lockwood).

Pledge $30 - Receive one customized 28mm-30mm character (domestic shipping included).

Pledge $20 - Receive one customized 28mm-30mm character in lower detail material (domestic shipping included).

If that's the future, I'm buying my mass produced pre-paints now while they are in the $2-10 range.

You don't really believe that's going to be their only price point when their site and operations are established, do you?

No, I don't. I think it could be lower or it could be higher.

If you referring to the player character market only, I agree that this is the future for special snowflake PCs.

As far as DM/group minis, I don't see it happening. The appeal of Hero Forge is customization of character minis.

DDM and PFB minis are DM minis and aren't about customization. It's about iconics, villains, npcs and monsters. And having them arrive painted.

Really, do we need more generic Faerun minis?

I'll be excited if I see a whole line of Dark Sun minis!

Personally, I'd prefer to see box sets of well written adventures containing art, maps and the complete set of minis required to run them.

I don't want to start arbitrarily collecting all over again. In fact, if they are random booster boxes like last time I have told my wife to stab me in the hand if I try to buy any. :-S

This. All of this. I am so sick of Faerun, and I love Dark Sun. WotC has made 2 thri-kreen minis, and what? About 7 Drizzts? If they ever made a solid set (40 or so) of Dark Sun minis, I'd blow way too much money on them.

I do. They actually address it on the Kickstarter page. While nothing is laid in stone yet, they expect to sell customized miniatures in the $15-20 range, which is right where they are at with the Kickstarter and the "stronger-but-less-detail" material.

It's also clear they feel that as 3D printing technology rapidly improves, so will the cost-per-miniature situation, but that's speculation.

I think the idea is cool and I hope their Kickstarter is successful, but it's hardly a game-changer . . . . yet . . .

There were actually three different thri-kreen in the prepainted sets: Thri-Kreen Ranger (Harbinger), Thri-Kreen Barbarian (Archfiends) and Thri-kreen Mantis Warrior (Lords of Madness).

There were only two pre-painted Drizzts: one in the Archfiends sets and one in the non-random Legend of Drizzt pack. And let's face it, anyone not wanting a Drizzt mini probably should have avoided buying something called Legend of Drizzt...) On the non pre-painted side, there was a generic dual-wielding drow ranger in the 2002 City of the Spider Queen Miniatures set of metal minis, and more recently, Gale Force Nine released the Drizzt Do'Urden, Drow Ranger limited edition miniature in their Collector's Series line.

So including Drizzt-like minis and licensed products, I count only four Drizzt minis from WotC in over a decade. Three of which were sold in non-randomised sets, which could have been easily avoided by anyone who has a problem with the character.

So that's hardly seven Drizzts...

That said, some more Dark Sun minis would be nice.
