Unapproachable East --- someone scored a copy!

Hey! I'm going with the many types but not many individuals idea. My (Thayan) PCs are going to wipe out an elf subrace or two!

As I'm already getting UE, perhaps the star elves just made the list...

Great idea. Just as long as that "Elven Liberation Army" from Lords of Darkness eventually shows up on the PC's doorstep looking very angry.

Genocide and retaliatory terrorism. The stuff of good roleplaying.

Maybe I can set my Mulhorandi-based group against those elves as well. IMC, non-humans are not exactly appreciated by Mulhorand, and elves would make good villains. They would have to take a number though since the Red Wizards of Thay, the churches and cults of Set and Tiamat, the forces of Free Unther, the rebels in the occupied territories, several factions in Chessenta, the followers of a chinese undead wizard, and disgruntled pirates and merchants are also out for blood...

Lythari were detailed in Races of Faerun. Star Elves were referred to in 2e books I think as Starym? Anyway, they are reclusive, etc etc.

Really I think there are too many races in faerun period, especially when you take all the different regions into account.

Thinking about this some - I am going to approach each of these elves as less of a subrace - and more of a culture/society (with the potential exception of the sea and winged elves who really do appear to be a sub-genus of elves)

And in that case, I do not have as large a problem with the large numbers.

No no no. Starym is a gold elven family, famous for having exactly one non-lawful, non-evil member, Josidiah (who got lost in the underdark). The rest of the Staryms are your typical nazi sun elves. Found on Evermeat (Olgar Shiverstone: There's one good reason to have so many types of elves ... ogres like variety in their diets! Don't stop until there are 31 flavors!) and mainland Faerûn.

Of star elves, we know nothing, except they're from the "Unapproachable East" (not mainland Faerûn) and that they are "eldritch" (see this). My bet would be that they have an Int bonus, spell-like abilities, and stuff like that, so that we may have "elves that are innately magical" and "attuned to the weave", like all the elf fans say they are.
