Unarmed Strike: semantic problem. [Native English speakers help me!]

First Post
Hi.

I'm having a little semantic problem with a "proud" English Native speaker on the WotC boards.

Just to sum it up:

PHB Glossary said:
unarmed strike
A successful blow, typically dealing nonlethal damage, from a character attacking without weapons.
A monk can deal lethal damage with an unarmed strike, but others deal nonlethal damage.
Ok, now, native English speakers help me on this issue. :)

Does this sentence mean that an Unarmed Strike sometimes doesn't deal any kind of damage, or, as I interpret it, it means that most of the time it deals non-lethal damage, but it always deals some kind of damage?

Thank you in advance!

A successfull unarmed strike always deals some damage. Any successful attack (armed or otherwise) will always deal at least one point of damage (before taking DR into account)

Normally an unarmed strike deals non-letheal damage. You may choose to take a -4 penalty to your attack roll and deal lethal damage.

A monk or character with the Imporved Unarmed Strike feat has the option of choosing to do lethal or non-lethal damage without taking the penalty.

Hope that helps.

Ok. :)

Unarmed Strikes always deal some kind of damage=2

Unarmed Strikes sometimes don't deal any kind of damage=0

Other opinions? :)

Need another vote from an English prof? Make that "Unarmed Strikes always deal some kind of damage=5".

I'll be #6 in the "Unarmed Strikes always deal some kind of damage" group.

What exactly is the other guy saying?
