Undermountain not a rumor anymore

I might be interested if WOTC veers away from the original Undermountain, and gives it a treatment like Expedition to Castle Ravenloft.

I always hated how the Original Undermountain was left vague. I pretty much had all the info I needed off the boxed set, Big Dungeon under city made by Crazy Wizard...rooms left blank for me to fill....wtf?!

I want to see Halaster made an intergral part of this adventure. I want to see rooms filled, and scope given.

Hrm, I wonder how it'll be done. Although Undermountain was cool, it did leave way too many rooms open and needing to be filled. However, I had liked the rooms that WERE filled in. I'll wait till I see it till I judge cause not doing so will only bring hardship upon myself. ;)

Mine too! Althought I am not sure I am interested in a megadungeon. Since I never played DnD before 3e, nostalgia isn't enought to sell me on this line of products. We will have to see.

Thinking about it, the only thing that would kill this product for me would be if they made Halaster into the BBEG. Which he is not.

Maybe they'll use one of my ideas (:D) and center the adventure around Manshoon's clone, who's building an army to retake the Zhentarim?

I think I'll give this one a miss. If it's just a big dungeon crawl, then I'm afraid I'm just not interested. Although, if it's somehow not that, then I might be.

Two questions I would like answers to (although we'll need to wait for those answers): What level range is the adventure designed for? Does it use the new 'Delve' format for encounters?

No idea on level range, but I'm willing to put money down to bet it uses the Delve format. I mean, if they don't use the format with a crawl (which the format really works for!), then there's something wrong.

I hate to say it but I suspect the book will cover only level one. That would allow it to fill out the level more with details and have some control of level to aim for.

Then each 8-12 months we get a new level done.

Not sure if its what I would done but It makes the most sense of the balance of level, detail, content and the such.

I will most likely buy it if only to "borrow" traps from it for dungeons I create. My players enjoy dungeons but more than 3 sessions in a row of it and it becomes old to them.

Hmmm... if they did that, then I might actually buy it. I'm a sucker for amazingly large and lengthy adventures with way more detail than I'll ever use in my lifetime.

Yeah, that's what I figure. And, actually, I do like the Delve format. But, it does have one significant problem: it really eats up page-count, so that a large book may include only a deceptively small adventure. Thus, I'm not sure it's ideal for a product like Undermountain.

Wait, what's the Delve format?

It's a new adventure format, first used in the Wizards of the Coast Dungeon Delve adventure at one of the Gen Con events, and later adopted for some of their newer adventures. I believe it can be seen in "Expedition to Castle Ravenloft", and am sure it's used in the upcoming "Scourge of the Howling Horde". For more information, see this "Design & Development" article.
