D&D 5E Understanding the differences between Eberron villains

They're eternal spirits of evil. What about that isn't fiendish? They're just nightmare themed instead of ice, horned, or chained.

Just to throw some controversy onto the pile, 5e got it wrong by making Quori aberrations (as discussed in the most recent MZ episode on the new book). They're not alien like the Daelkyr, they're nightmare spirits. This is even relevant mechanically as you can't divine sense or dispel evil and good an aberration!

Wait, the Quori are aberrations? I thought they were fiends or something. Aren’t they supposed to be able to inhabit an inspired’s body and soul, like a sort of demonic possession?

Sure are. Mind you being abberations means a bunch of spells don't work on them which is likely intentional.

So what are Quori classified as?
They are currently classified as Aberrations in 5e, but were Outsiders (Evil) in 3.5e which most closely corresponds to Fiends in 5e. Keith Baker has said that he will be including variant rules for Quori that reclassifies them as Fiends in his upcoming DM's Guild release Exploring Eberron.

I just saw this under my bed, which one is it?
