Unearthed Arcana - Which rules do you use regularly?

I love the Level Independent XP system, and use it for every campaign I run.

Other than that, I've used buying off level adjustments, gestalt characters (very briefly, because I hated it,) reserve hit-points, and some of the class variants.

I've used the cloistered cleric variant and whirling rage is a popular choice for the barbarians in our group.

I also use VP/WP and action points but my VP/WP has some tweaks and I use the AP system from Grim Tales. I also don't use VP/WP for standard D&D games either.

Paragon classes
Variant races
Variant classes
Spontaneous divine casters
Recharge Magic (though modified)
Gestalt
Reserve hit points
Item familiar

I'm happy with all of these

Defense bonus
And pretty much all of the character creation options. My guys don't read the books too carefully, so I don't have to worry about min-maxing very much.

We use the Buying off Level Adjustment rule happily.

One of the DMs has experimented with Defense bonus and a few other things.

I'd *like* them to start running a gestalt game, dangit.

Try getting them to run a game where you all have defense bonus and everyone has a gestalt class of monk. They might buy into kung-fu mayhem.

Which are you using? Are you satisfied with the rule (since some of you are players who may have been outvoted in your group)?
We've been using fractional BAB and saves for even longer than UA has been out. It's minor even for most multiclassed characters, but when it does come up, it universally makes things saner: improving BAB and weak saves while toning down good saves. Having a fighter/cleric/paladin/Purple Dragon knight in our first 3E game made me appreciate this.

I've played the battle sorcerer a couple of times and I'm currently playing a character with human paragon levels. I really like both classes.

Honestly, the only reason that I haven't changed it is because I use e-tools for NPCs (and some PCs). I'm not sure it can handle it, and never picked up the UA dataset.

Given I can't even login to their site to get the most recent updated datasets (passwords aren't working and they don't answer my emails to customer service), I doubt I'll be able to get an answer about whether it's supported.

Here are ones that have seen alot of use in my groups:

1. Battlesorcerer - by far the most used.
2. Martial Rogue - variant where the rogue trades in sneak attack for fighter feat progression
3. Domain Wizards
4. Prestige Paladin, Bard and Ranger
5. Generic classes
6. A couple of the other class variants on page 58.
7. Racial paragon classes
8. Taint and tainted classes
9. Defense bonuses and armor as damage reduction when we did a Traveller T20 cross over
10. Incantations when we introduced CoC themes into one campaign

Obviously it was mostly class variants.

Thanks,
Rich

When I last ran D&D 3e (and who knows when that'll happen again. . .) -

Buying off LA
Class variants (some, kinda)
Fractional BAB and saves (my own variant of that variant)
Weapon Groups (as above)
Facing (more or less)
3 basic classes (but not how they've done it, at all)
A couple of others, I think

With many house rules of my own besides. . . so many and so varied as to make the UA variants pale somewhat. :)

But really, when I first read through True20, I had to laugh. There were that many striking resemblances to my own house rules, and things I was thinking about or trying to work in (or out), that yeah, I just switched over instead. With a couple of simple house rules there too, mind you. [--I'll never change, in some ways.--] :heh:

Not likely to switch back unless or until coerced (and that's not seeming likely).
