Unlimited ammo?

OK, what are the various ways you can get a ranged weapon to no longer need ammo, and still function as it was designed to? For instance, could a Brilliant Energy Longbow create and fire energy arrows without the need to load a normal arrow in first?

Per RAW, no.

Quiver of Ehlonna, I believe it is.

Quiver of Endless Arrows (by Andy Collins).

I could see letting somebody add an ability that when the bow is drawn, it creates an arrow. Probably wouldn't make it cost a whole lot either, so long as it was just basic arrows.

You could be a Soulbow, or even a regular Soulknife and create your ammo from mental energy. You could play a warlock, for that matter, which I like better but which isn't as closely parallell. A Heward's Handy Haversack filled with ammo is the next best thing to unlimitted.

If I was at home, I'd look through the magic item compendium for a weapon property that does what you want, but I'm not sure one exists.

There was a bottomless quiver on Andy Collins web sight at one point.

There's a special crossbow for warforged in the ECS which is sort of unlimitted.

All in all, arrows are pretty cheap. If I were house ruling this, I'd make the ability fairly inexpensive.

The MIC has the glove (or gauntlet) of infinite blades which allows the user to create an infinite number of ordinary daggers, though IIRC it takes a standard action for each, and they fade away if not used in 3 rounds. It also has 5 daily charges, which can be used to generate magical daggers.

It probably wouldn't be too difficult to modify this to the purpose you're looking for.

There's a Dragon Magazine that has a magic quiver that does what your looking for and more; not only does it create endless normal arrows but also, a few times per day it can generate special material arrows as well.

I can try and hunt down the specs if you'd like.

J from Three Haligonians

I think Kittie Brie (sp?) from the FR setting has a special bow with this ability.

Also, the Ranger from the D&D cartoon had stats for a similar weapon in the booklet that came with the DVDs, from memory...

I thought you couldn't use the haversack because of a limitation that you can only draw items from it so fast....like it takes a move action to draw out an item, which would gimp it for this purpose.

Maybe the one item was a quiver, but still, it would prevent you from launching more than one arrow that round.

I know there is a weapon property )MIC) to put your ammo (up to 100 arrows/bolts, I think) in extra-dimensional space ... but not give unlimited ammo....
