Fans ruin everything.

My kid and I were watching Ted Lasso last night and there's a scene where a player jumps into the stands to fight a spectator who had been abusive to the players all game. One of the characters referred to him as a "fan" and my son immediately piped up, "no, he's not."

To undermine my elitist credentials from the last hot take: ketchup is good actually as a master sauce. It's a complete blend of sweet, sour and umami thanks to the tomato, makes a great basis for other flavors, is surprisingly easy to make and adapt for different purposes with other ingredients but still perfectly serviceable in nearly all mass-market forms.

Ketchup deserves more respect.

It is a really good base for a lot of things. BQ sauces, obviously, but you can go the other way and get some real sweatness going with it.

The former, primarily. This is why First Blood is best film in the genre by a country mile

C'mon! That film was just pure gold! It makes a great double feature with his starring role in film he was in the following year, Disclosure, when we all learned that the real problem with corporate America is that men were powerless, and that evil sexy women would sexually harass the heck out of poor, powerless men.

Or you’re playing with a large group, or players are new, or the mechanics are involved, or…or…or…

Mechanics involved by themselves won't do that. I've run some pretty involved systems that didn't take that long. It requires multiples of the things you mention in concert to produce turns that long.
