Many people don't need a car to get back and forth to work either.

Heck, people new to the game almost certainly don't know changes are coming in two years...

I ran a came shop back when 3.5 came out and people were buying 3.0 books still because of the whole backwards compatible hype WOTC was still spitting at us. Lots of annoyed customers coming back in about a month before when some of the bigger changes were shown in Dragon Magazine.

I left the shop right after 4e came out, like 3 weeks after and we had people coming in buying 3.5 with NO clue a 4e was even on the way up to when we got the release posters. Not the preview books, the promo posters about a month before and it was about a year from announcement until release so yeah, there is definitely a lack of awareness.

I have even heard around the community locally where I am that it's a 5.5 and that it's a complete over haul, a new game, for those even aware. I point to MotM and comments from Ray that the indicated direction is complete Backwards compatible with current 5e material and still get some pushback.

50 dollar for 2 years of fun seems like a fair price.

Flawed analogy, I don't need a car to get back and forth to work. Nor do I need one for groceries, or anything else. I want one because its useful for going to the race track, and on vacations, or to see a movie in a far off theatre. But I don't need one.

Note that this is all live, up to the moment data, not historical. The 5E PHB is the 3rd best selling book right now, with live sales, not all time.

Paizo seems to have had their PF2E products recatagorized as board games some time ago, so they stopped showing up in the same lists as 5E books. They were not selling favorably in comparison before that switch.

Maybe Paizo opted out of showing their ranking entirely.

Given the online discourse, that wouldn't surprise me.
