Upgradeable Powers - Useful outside Themes?

Once you're swapping powers anyway, there are sometimes/often potential powers that are upgraded versions of lower level ones. I do think this is a cool idea; I'm eager to see the DS book and the way themes work.

Actually, the powers that have a direct upgrade are the exception not the rule. My Swordmage would kill for a 2[W] Dual Lightning Strike but the only upgrade is a mediocre 5th lvl daily.

So, Marshall.. something like

Upgrade option:
You may choose a power that is 10 or 20 levels below the slot to 'upgrade'. The power reads the same but gains an additional 1[W] or 1 dice to the damage for each 10 levels it is upgraded

?

erm.. wrong forum for my post! Ooops!

I will say... I think I'd only want it also denied the ability to keep the old version.

Ie, I don't need to see a rogue with three dailies:
Knockout (9th)
Knockout+ (19th)
Knockout++ (29th)

Or other similar shennanigans.

Essentially, Yes. A 13th level version that did double the [W] damage and Aegised instead of just marked would be cool. A 23rd lvl that jumped to 3 or 4 [W] would be better than every other option SWMs have right now.

This is actually the second place WotC has floated this concept. The first was a class acts Avengers a few months ago. I'd love to see this expanded on. Maybe in useful Dragon article instead of the weak sauce we've been having the last couple months...

Yes, actually there should be a general rule, that powers that deal dices of damage can be upgraded that way. If it does not do dices of damage, the static bonus is doubled instead. Easy rule.

Third.

The first was Dragon 381, with the Honest Few article.
