I just realized something. By allowing the Half-Celestial or Half-Fiend templates as Divine Abilities. You've just inferred that Outsiders are a race...however unintentional this may have been. For those HALF-BREED templates were devised on the premise that outsiders were a species of sorts. Yet...you completely denied outsiders as a species in an earlier conversation that occurred months ago. :)) This just makes me giggle.

I would advise either eliminating those two templates as divine abilities (as the divine templates themselves more than adequately cover the half-divine concept anyways) or offer an alternative of some sort. I personally have never used them as both of those templates run contrary to the whole..."outsiders are divinities" concept anyways. :))

I also propose a pamphlet of some sort that you could sell to us that would update all currently existing dragons (since most are underpowered compared to Epic Bestiary builds) and outsiders, including Rakshasa, ect. (since so many outsiders are out of whack). I know Id buy it. Perhaps even included breakdowns in this pamphlet.

Just ideas...

What are you talking about? They can be purely spiritual beings and still create half-breeds with mortals. The resulting offspring will just have the DNA of their mortal parent only, infused with celestial or fiendish essence.

There you go again, trying to make extra work for U_K, on top of the buttload he's already got on his plate...

U_K!

It might be a tad late for the February 10th/11th update, but a bit later tonight I plan to, if time permits, give Chapter 4, the powers section a good rundown. I'll post a .txt attachment with all the errors (mis-referenced prerequisites, etc) and questions regarding the powers (Like any rules mechanics regarding the powers, such as if it offers a save, or what kind of action it takes to use, etc), and any typos. It might not get done until tomorrow afternoon, but I hope to include everything I can.

This way, should someone else decide to do this later, (and I implore them to; I tend to miss the obvious) they can check my notes so two people don't post the same list of typos.

Aye...that may be true about the half-breed templates. But there is one problem with that. The Celestial or Fiendish, or rather Outsider, essence is precisely what comprises the divinity templates. Thus making the half-outsider templates obsolete. Here's the schtick...

WOTC defines outsiders as races outside the prime material plane.

Krusty defines them as not being races per se, but rather...divinities of sorts.

This is why I initially had a problem with not just slapping the divinity templates on preexisting outsiders, which in my opinion would solve all my problems and save everyone who has the same problem a lot of time and energy.

So either the divinity templates replace the weaker and stupider half-outsider templates (which they should if you buy that outsiders are not a race, but rather forms of divinity) or Krusty should declare outsiders to also be a race and not just forms of divinity (which would also make sense) thus allowing the half-outsider templates to make a lot more sense.

Especially since half-outsider templates are essentially the same thing as Krusty's divinity templates...just a whole lot shitier.

As for the pamphlet idea...it was just an idea.

New Topic...

...Sea and Sky Portfolios...what if someone has both...are they weakened all the time? They cannot realistically be in both continuously at all times. Or...are they weakened only when away from both simultaneously? I use the latter, as the deity draws power from one or the other, or even both.

Divine Ability: 13. BANE GUARD
You can combine your music with others for greater effect.

Fix the description.

Divine Ability: 147. SPELL ABSORPTION
Okay, so you absorb the spell. Then what? Specify what you can do with an absorbed spell (I assume, from the description, that you can cast it?)

Haha, yea right.

Evidently my computer has decided February will be it's last months, and keeps shutting down anytime I do anything.

I managed to get the first 2 pages of chapter 4 edited, (Most of what I got to was just grammar and such) but my computer just can't seem to handle 'notepad'. :(
It can run doom 3 fine. But notepad, oh man. (Probably a power supply problem. Runs any one thing fine; try two things: bam!)

Anyways, I'll attach what I have so far in case someone like U_K want it.

Listen mate don't worry about the editing, I am the last person in the world to criticise anyone about that, I appreciate any work you do and never feel obligated to do anything - thats my job. ;)

Sorry to hear your computer is going belly up. But at least you have a machine that could run Doom 3, I'd be lucky to run Doom on this bucket of bolts.

Heh, it only bothers me that I got snowed in, and I have nothing to do. :)

Once Ascension is finished (text-wise, not editing wise) I'll haul my old Pentium 2 out of the closet and throw my copy of Ascension (and probably Adobe 5) on a CD and just use that computer to do the editing.

Don't worry; I don't feel obligated, but this is just one of those things that's just too cool. I figure, anything I can throw together to save you time is time I save everyone else. The players in my gaming group are just now starting to get inundated with the Worship-point system. Heck, while their characters have aquired a couple of worship points, they have not yet learned you can lose quintessence. :)
Last session the party 'paladin' (at this rate he won't be one for long:)) exaggerated the infamy of a rival just to get the group to go and off 'em. They guy they killed, while a seditious, had good proof and justifications for his actions, though no one bothered to see his side. :) Hurray for quintessence loss. Oh man, the paladin lost his whole 2 worship points. But that's going to be a drop in the pond if the paladin keeps lying and skewing the facts. I am lenient but I shall soon make it clear to him that he's treading on thin ice. (By the way: can quintessence scores go into the negatives? :))

But yes, the Immortal's Handbook is definitely a favorite book of mine. I can't wait for the text-section to be finished, because the artwork is tentatively set as being 'awesome'.

The High Lord template is vague... Too vague. I think you really need to spell out how ability bonuses a worked out for stacking the Time Lord template, as well as special abilities, etc. Maybe it's just me, though...

If a paladin intentionally lied in any of my campaigns to set someone up for murder. Id revoke his paladin status immediately until he atoned for his sins. Lying is very dishonorable and very blackguard-like, especially when he is trying to get others to kill for him.

Very true.
I am giving him the benefit of the doubt; The player is playing a character very contradictory to his own personality and previous character styles, so I give him a bit of leeway on the code of conduct. The player isn't very experienced at the game, but otherwise isn't too bad.
And yes, he soon will be a fallen paladin unless he does something appropriate. I have told the player of his 'predicament' and he is going to seek amends before it is too late.

Not to derail this thread entirely; Heres a needed fix list: (In no particular order; Mostly from the powers section)

- Why is it that Demiurges get Interdimentional for free, but time lords do not?
- Goetic blood is broken; I know you talked about a fix earlier. As it is now, 1-shoting a deity seems to summon a being MUCH stronger than the deity killed. (A friend's converted Lesser god of Fire could summon a CR ~200 creature upon death.) Oh, and it works rediculously well with Vengeful Effect. :)
- The divine ability 'Uncanny Dodge' is the name of a class feature for many classes. Perhaps changing it to some other name would negate any possible confusion.
- Are there any limits to Vicissitude? Minimum hit die for a 'monster?' Ok, I choose my alternate Identity to be a Nexus Dragon. Game.
- Chimerical, and alot of the 'stack wild shape' type effects need to be clarified better. Do I just add their stats together? Do I take the Strength of monster A and add the strength of monster B? or do I subtact 10 from Monster B's strength score first?
- Cosmic Firmament Cosmic Ability is the same name as a Divinity template power. They clearly have different, but similar, effects. (Always on home plane vs Double divine rank on home plane) Which is it? Or are they meant to be different powers, and thusly one should change names.
- Gravitic Effect takes away percentages of the foes life... Is that a % of current HP or maximum HP? If it's total, gravitic effect is only good round 1, and can't kill anyone... (Unless you get it to 50+% and round up on that last hit point... or 100+% :)) And if it's maximum, it becomes the 'best' damaging move in the game. No matter how you compare with your foe, your ability to kill them is the same. Supreme Being? Bah, shoot him with a Quantum Gravitic Beam! I have nothing against either interpretation, but it isn't clear which one should be used.
- Absolute, the Omnific Ability, isn't clear on what it gives you. (Other than 'the win' :))

You should toss in a mentor paladin that teaches this paladin exactly how hard it is to be a paladin. Perhaps make him a fallen paladin who became a blackguard then realized the folly of his ways...only it was too late...so now hes a ghost and doomed to wander the mortal planes forever.

The Fire Portfolio still doesn't say when it's Hero-deity competence bonus kicks in.

The Good Portfolio's Rapture refers to Superior Unholy Effect.

The Law Portfolio still doesn't say when it's Hero-deity competence bonus kicks in.

The Revenge Portfolio's Lesser power refers to "Force Bane."

The Strength Portfolio's Hero power still gives a bonus to Strength, at all times. I'm sure that's not what you meant.

Cunning Body is suddenly different from all the other "stat to bonus" abilities.

The Craft (Metalworking) Portfolio lists construct traits and then is says in the double portfolios ...bonus is equal to double the deities divine rank. I can only assume you meant to have Iron Body as the next freebie on the tier since there is no bonus to anything.

I love the additions to the divine templates themselves. I know they aren't completely finished...but they're fairly close.

Question regarding Iron Body and Adamantine Body and such...the dexterity penalty that is mentioned in the description (-5 for Iron Body, -8 for Adamantine Body)...is this with the virtual size categories or is this a seperate penalty due purely to being metal. Do I stack the virtual size dexterity penalty with that or is it assumed to be included in that.

Remember to fix Withering [Effect]. I'd suggest dropping it from 1/2 to 1/4 or even 1/6.
Also, is Diseased [Effect] supposed to be as powerful as it is? I mean, it's technically twice as strong as Withering, with the exception that a heal will take care of it; still, given the power of it, it's almost a one-hit-kill policy for anyone who doesn't have a macro-score capable of standing up to the effect for at least one round. I'd suggest, if you think it necessary, to drop this to where Withering is now, i.e. at 1/2.

EDIT: Also... BOOKMARKS!

There are lots of 'quodruplings' in the Portfolios chapter. It's spelt 'quadrupled'.

There are still lots of 'enchantment bonuses'. Enchantment is a school of magic relating to mind control. Enhancement is the bonus type. The first example that springs to mind is the Object portfolio, at least back in the 2.2 version.
