Use of BoEF, N&D, Nymphology or the GUCK

Does your campaign have use for the BoEF, Naughty & Dice, Nymphology or the GUCK?

  • Yes. While sex and eroticism aren't the focus of my games these situations do happen.

  • Maybe. If my players and I all feel comfortable with incorporating these types of sources.

  • Maybe. But probably only for the non-sexual, non-erotic material, like spells and monsters.

At some point it will be more useful to me. I think it's a good thing, overall, and I can twist the statistics into saying that only about 55% oppose the idea with less than 20% claiming that there's no room for sex or eroticism in the game at all.

Little wars like this on the message boards intrigue me, though. Does it really matter to anyone what is being used in someone else's game? Does my disdain for the Monsternomicon mean that I should question whether anyone else uses it? Does it matter that more people will have no use for it than will? Is it even possible for someone to be "right" here?

Seems to me that the best poll would be a simple Yes, No, or Maybe.

That lets people misuse other people's votes to further their personal agendas. If you want to test motives, it's really proper to offer a few more choices.

True, but using single question polls to determine folks' motives isn't much better.

Having voted "No," I must point out that I did purchase "Nymphology." It's pretty funny, and I think Mongoose created it more as a comic-relief product than something to take seriously (like "The Slayers Guide to Female Gamers"). There are some things in there I could see being useful in a normal game, particularly for bards, and for someone who wanted to make a serious situation have a bit of humor.

It doesn't matter what the intent of the product was. What matters is the content of the product. What this says is, "its ok to show nipples and have magic weapons that are essentially large adult toys of a certain shape...as long as it's funny. But if anyone shows nipples (or other body parts) or has magic items of an adult nature written seriously in a serious book...man, that's bad."

Keep polling until you get the answers you want? The other poll has three times as many votes cast, which seems to make it at least as valid as this one, if not more so. Granted, if this poll gets as many votes, it could tip either way.[

No, keep polling until there is a poll with more realistic choices. I didn't vote in the other poll because none of the choices were accurate for me. I'm not out to "prove" anything. Just get a more accurate feel of the different choices people have with various sources for adult fantasy rpg information (not just the BoEF).

Call me a prude, but I cast my vote for no ("best left to the imagination"), here, based on the fact that BoEF has photos of models with body piercings (so others have said). To each their own opinion, but that's just not my cup of tea.

So, body piercings makes someone more naked? No body piercings makes them less naked? There are images in the PHB of characters with body piercings. Is that just as bad? I don't understand.

Also, the questions weren't concerning the BoEF alone, they also concern Nymphology, Naughty & Dice and the GUCK. Nymphology has no images of people with body piercings and I don't think that N&D or the GUCK do either. So, are they acceptable just because of a lack of body piercings?

Actually, I'd call it a shortcoming of 3e in general. As you pointed out, there are examples of piercings all over the place. It's not something I consider to be attractive, in the least, which may be one of my shortcomings. An ear, I can handle. A nose, perhaps. But I'd rather not look at things pierced between the neck and naval, so I won't be purchasing BoEF.
