Using Mutants & Masterminds for Stormwatch: Team Achilles?

So this idea came to me last night... I haven't really had a chance to check into the feasibility of it yet, but I thought I'd throw it out. For those unfamiliar with S:TA, they are a UN-sanctioned team of highly trained normals who hunt down and kill superpowered beings. It's an awesome comic, and I personally think it could make for a fun-ass game. What does everyone else think? Doable or not?

Totally doable.... I'm playing the resident non-mutant in my campain. X-military, spec-ops guy. My character can totally hang with all the Supers in my group. I think a Stormwatch TA game would work fine in M&M... you might want to look for some grim a gritty damage rules to make the combats more deadly. But I think it would work great and it sounds like a lot of fun.

Surfmonkey, my friends and I have been tossing around ideas for a Stormwatch: Team Achilles game for months now.

We figure we might not get an EXACT simulation of the comic (dramatic lisence and all) but here are some of the points we've discussed:

- Gadgets and weapons. You team will not have access to PL 10 superpowers...or really want them. ;)
That doesn't mean that they can't have a PL 10 Nullifier, or a PL 10 BFG.

- Skills. Emphasisze the fact that SPBs neglect skills and focus on thier powers. Give the team high ratrings in skills thay will be able to apply to hurt SPBs.

- Information. Team Achilles, when compared to their competition (SPBs) are very well-informed. Before a "mission", give them some intelligence from "on high". This is a great opportunity for anyone who likes to make props for player hand-outs. If an SPBs has a known weakness, they should be briefed on it, and supplied with appropriate equipment. This will make games where the team is totally surprised all the more exciting (and dangerous).

- Rated R. When peoiple die, there is blood. This is not four-color heroics. When SPBs use thier powers, innocent people die. And be sure to swear. At least every third word. Multiple consecutive curses are reserved for speaking to actual SPBs and government officals.

You know, typing all this up has totally inspired me. I am off to start writing my game!

Have fun with yours.

Also remember how many abilities can come from training. This might seem to be a gray area, but in M&M, you can easily get Strike, Combat Sense, and Amazing Saves from training, with these skills representing your years of study and rigorous exercises to become the best normal humanity has to offer.

Pop yourself into the Protection-granting device of your choice, and you can toe-to-toe with those evil superpowered monsters. :)
