Vampire as PrC

NOt sure which forum is appropriate so I'll start here.

I am thinking about having a character infected (maybe not the right verb) with the curse of vampirism. I don't want to give them all the benefits right off the bat but have them gain powers when they should be "leveling".

SImilar to the Dragon discipile PrC.

Couple of questions:

What is the ECL of a vampire? 6?

If so should the progression be 6 levels?

HAs there been anything like this other than the Dragon Disciple done before? I am sure I am not the first one to come up with this idea!

Thanks in advance.

Well, the last "Creature Crucible" for OD&D was "Night Howlers", which effectively made lycanthropes multi-class characters. (For instance, you could be a Fighter 6/Werewolf 5.) As with other monster classes in OD&D, as the character levelled up he or she got access to more of the creature's racial HD and special abilities.

Since you're working on vampires, you might also want to check out the "Requiem: The Grim Harvest" 2E supplement for Ravenloft, which had a much different approach to undead PCs. I think it used the Player's Option system of character points but it's been so long now that I can't be sure...
