There is an old Novel for Ravenloft that featured a "good vampire". Jandar Sunstar or
something like that was his name. He basically was bitten and turned into a vampire
but did not want to be one. He would go out into the forest and feed off animals but
never enough to kill them. Occasionally he would go into the prison and feed off the
criminals. So, I think someone who was turned into a vamp. could essentially be LN.
The book is called Vampire of the Mists and was the first in the series. Release 1991.

Good luck,

Arrel

Oh by the way, as a Paladin I would probably attack the vamp. depending on who my god was.

Somehow I find this just silly... To be a good vampire he's got to not only not drink human blood, but he can't be killing animals while he drinks their blood? It's okay to chop the animals up for stew, but not to kill them for their blood? That's just silly.

Vampire: Here little bunny rabbit... Ssssssslurp. Good little bunny! Now, go free!

The bunny leaps twice and then dazed from the lack of blood, it crashes into a tree.

Vampire: Hey, wolves! Come 'ere.

A pack of wolves show up, as they often d when Mr. Good Vampire calls.

Vampire: See that bunny over there, wolves?

The bunny tries to get up but falls over again. The wolves drool.

Vampire: Don't eat him. No eating the poor, confused... Hey! Hey! PUT HIM DOWN OR YOU'RE NEXT, PAL!

Or pick up a Ring of Sustenance. :)
Of course, a RoS costs, what was it, 2,000 gp? Five mules cost 40 gp. Feed for five mules cost 25 cp/day (or 2.5 sp, or 0.25 gp) while normal rations cost 5 sp/day (or 50 cp, 0.5 gp). While it's really more of an RP issue, a bunch of cattle is much less expensive in the short term, while a RoS is less expensive in the long run (7,840 days is the break-even point for five mules vs. one Ring of Sustenence, in terms of initial cost + feed... but that's what, over 20 years? And a Ring of Sustenence eats up a valuable ring slot, to boot, while the mules can have other, useful functions, such as packing more loot)

if he's LN, he's LN... and your paladin has an ability that can check to be sure he isnt evil (in case the player is lying about the vamps alignment). The "going crazy" if his Con reaches zero is weird because all undead have no Con score. But if he did have a Con score, you would know when he hasnt fed recently and could calculate when he would go crazy.

Someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but characters with Lawful alignment would feel they have a role/duty in society (society > individual), so the Vampire would/should offer to be destroyed/restraind if he knew he was going to go crazy.

Does your paladin has a problem with undead, other than their alignment? If a non-evil ghost manifested and asked your paladin to help bring it's murderers to justice, would you help the ghost?

True, it would be more humane to feed from cattle, but what true child of the night would lower himself to suckling the blood from a mule?!? No, only the finest vintage for me, no whores or dockside labourers, no filthy commoners...only the finest...

Thanks a lot guys. I'm playing a noble vampire (Timetraveling campaign, I'm from Rennesaince Italy). I read the Vampire: The Masquarade background too, love it's idea of the Camarilla and the Sabbat.

Well, I personally think survival is important.

You should ask your DM this question... Though I would like to mention that there IS a "good" version of a Lich in one of the books (maybe it was MM2?).

I believe it is the elven baelnorn from monsters of Faerun?
