There's a lot of material from the Ravenloft D&D setting that deals with vampires. Check out Van Richten's Guide to Vampires for lots of info.

Arrellion said:There is an old Novel for Ravenloft that featured a "good vampire". Jandar Sunstar or
something like that was his name. He basically was bitten and turned into a vampire
but did not want to be one. He would go out into the forest and feed off animals but
never enough to kill them. Occasionally he would go into the prison and feed off the
criminals. So, I think someone who was turned into a vamp. could essentially be LN.
The book is called Vampire of the Mists and was the first in the series. Release 1991.
Of course, a RoS costs, what was it, 2,000 gp? Five mules cost 40 gp. Feed for five mules cost 25 cp/day (or 2.5 sp, or 0.25 gp) while normal rations cost 5 sp/day (or 50 cp, 0.5 gp). While it's really more of an RP issue, a bunch of cattle is much less expensive in the short term, while a RoS is less expensive in the long run (7,840 days is the break-even point for five mules vs. one Ring of Sustenence, in terms of initial cost + feed... but that's what, over 20 years? And a Ring of Sustenence eats up a valuable ring slot, to boot, while the mules can have other, useful functions, such as packing more loot)Lord Pendragon said:Or pick up a Ring of Sustenance.![]()

Well, I personally think survival is important.Guy below me... said:Someone can correct me if i'm wrong, but characters with Lawful alignment would feel they have a role/duty in society (society > individual), so the Vampire would/should offer to be destroyed/restraind if he knew he was going to go crazy.
