Vecna, Where is he now?

Lord Soth sort of "escaped"... he was pulled back somehow. It's a little vauge on exactly how that happened.

Is there any truth to the rumour that he found a horse's head in his bed one morning?

As a paladin of Vecna, perhaps the only one, I take umbrage at the suggestion that the one true shining light of knowledge that is Lord Vecna was ever cast out from Oerth, or that he was forced to sneak back in. Clearly, these are the lies of the followers of the false gods, Pelor the weasel, and his ilk.

Only Lord Vecna can speak the truths about our situation and the manipulation by the other gods of mere mortals. Only Lord Vecna opposes them.

Walk toward the light!

a LONELY job if ever there was one...

Unless you're a house-ruled paladin of an evil alignment, I don't see how that's possible... I think worshiping Vecna would DEFINETLY break the "Do not consort with evil" part of the paladin's code.

Vecna's not evil, just....misunderstood... :D

Vecna's fate has not been mentioned in Ravenloft D20, it is however safe to assume that he left. The main D20 book only details the domains of the core, so Vecna's has not been mentioned, however, the rest of the book manages to remove almost all direct refrence to other TSR worlds. One domain lord who was explicitly described as a Red Wizard of They is now a "tatooed wizard". Lord Soth's old domain is described as being formerly governed by a "dark knight" whose name and origin is never mentioned.

Given how iconic Vecna is and the fact that it is explicitly stated in a ravenloft adventure that he escaped I'm thinking the writers of the D20 Ravenloft are happy to let him go and be rid of the guy. He really was too powerful for even the flavor of Ravenloft.

As for Lord Soth, the official Ravenloft FAQ states:

The official word from Wizards of the Coast is that Soth definitely did enter Ravenloft after the events of the novel Test of the Twins, and he definitely returned to Krynn in the autumn of 752 BC, during the events of the novel Spectre of the Black Rose, written by James Lowder. The reasons behind Soth's escape, however, are nebulous and open to reader interpretation. For that matter, although Soth definitely left Ravenloft in 752 BC, it has not been definitively stated when he reappeared on Krynn. Time flows strangely in Ravenloft when compared to other worlds, and Soth could easily have reappeared in Dargaard Keep mere moments after he left it.

There is NO reason he can't be, its a quirk of the rules. He has NO limitations on the god he serves. He cannot consort with evil, so he will have to be alone, as all the clerics of Vecna are evil for sure. I figure he has a low INT score, and has been raised by a cleric of Vecna who has filled his head with lies (Vecna is the lord of lies). But, using 3rd edition, there is no prohibition from it at all, just a very difficult life. But, its my idea, go get your own...

Vecna

Last i`ve seen of vecna(or his avatar) was him killing me in sigil. I think the lady of pian stopped him of making the universe anew in his way by sending first a ten level party and then a group of demigods when we failed. o and if you ever play die vecna die.
Try to break our record in the tower of vecna 5 hours from start to finish.

Vecna and Soth: Separated at Birth?

The folks in charge of d20 Ravenloft have explained that the Ravenloft license does not extend to characters "borrowed" from other settings. IMHO, the restrictions of the license actually dovetail nicely with the "need" to get Soth back to Krynn and Vecna back to Greyhawk. Thus we end up with "Spectre of the Black Rose" (to "give back" Soth to Krynn) and "Die, Vecna, Die!" (in preparation for shutting down Ravenloft) on the WOTC side and nebulous references in the d20 Ravenloft book (after its revival as a licensed property).

As an aside, I thought Vecna was actually a poor substitute for missing Azalin, and Soth made an uninteresting darklord in that he seemed to spend most of his time indulging an overwrought blue mood. I'm not in any way affiliated with the d20 Ravenloft folks (though I downloaded and enjoyed all their netbooks :D ), but I highly recommend the new version of the setting.

You lie! The Maimed Lord, Master of the Spider Throne, is not the Lord of Lies, but the Lord of Secrets!

I would consider serving an evil god "consorting with evil", even if the paladin is too stupid to know it's an evil god. Besides, why would Vecna give a LG paladin powers when he would use them for good things that would likely in the long run be Anti-Vecna.
