Videogames that you'd like to see made into movies.

Though I love Zork, I'm not sure about it as a movie... maybe like a cable mini-series comedy or something like that.

Love Ultima too, but it really starts to unravel after no. 7.

I'd be interested in something based on Baldur's Gate, but I dunno if that might be too in depth to cover in a movie--maybe a series (an animated series, for that matter).

I'd second the Freedom Force games, though it's comic-book genre would seem to work better for a series as well.

However, what about Fallout? I think that could feasibly work. Heck, they should throw in the original music as well.

I second drothgery.

None. While games are growing more cinematic and sophisticated, their interactive format, dont seem to translate into stron movies, which have a more focused singular vision for storytelling. Many games especially rpgs have given us rich plots (like Knights of the old republic) but right now, the source material for games (IMHO) seems too thin to spin off into a compelling movie. Both forms can tell good stories, they just do it differently.

Heck most movies based on comic books havent been that good, and comic books do most of the groundwork for moviemakers by given them pre made visual stroyboards.

Maybe Halo will change that. Maybe Diablo could be a good movie. But Im kinda pessimistic. :\

Star Control II would make a great movie. Why? Because it is excellently written and has a truly moving story.

Wing Commander I and/or II could be made into a solid movie, with kind of a retro, 1950s-movie-about-World-World-Two feel to it. Y'know, introduce the characters; show them in training; show some low-level missions; and then build up to the climactic "boss" mission (assault on K'Tithrak Mang would be a good one).

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is already a better movie than Phanton Menace, so... wishful thinking, but a live action version with the full ILM special effects bonanza would be sweet. Darth Malak is a great villain!

Those the top three on my personal wish list.

If any Star Wars game(s) were to become movies, they should be the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games.

Err... I wasn't saying that movies based on video games are doomed to be bad, only that it's hard to make a good one because of the differences in the mediums. However, video games based on movies have become a lot better lately, and it wouldn't surprise me too much if at some point the average movie based on a video game is a fun, albeit not very deep movie (ala the first Tomb Raider) and a few true gems emerge from that source..

I may not have been clear. Video game conversions arent necessarily doomed. It just seesm the people who adapt them either dont get the source material, or the source material is so thin that its just hard to make into a movie.

As an aside it struck me funny that Doom was made into a movie. Doom the video game is based on a very B movie plot- a space Marine fighting an extradimensional invasion. Which is then turned into a B movie.

Like I said maybe Halo will be a good candidate.

I'll take just about any Nintendo Property as a movie. Mario Bros (done right), Legend of Zelda/Adventures of Link et al, Metroid, Sonic (yes its a nintendo property now).

Sonic the Hedgehog is not a Nintendo property now. Sega is still a distinct company; they've simply gotten out of producing their own hardware. They're now a third-party software group, just like Capcom, Square Enix, et al. If Sonic was a Nintendo property, the last few games wouldn't have been multi-platform. That said, Sega does seem to be giving Nintendo preferential treatment where Sonic is concerned.

I'd love to see Hybrid Heaven as a movie. This largely-unknown N64 game was really great, and played itself out like a Tom Clancy work, except with aliens. I think it could be great as a film.

I'd also like to see a Ninja Gaiden movie. Not based on the latest game (which I don't like that much), but on the originals for Nintendo. Those had an incredible storyline.

As for Nintendo's own properties, the company has already started to make anime of them, though we won't see them for a while yet.

In regards to Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, there's discussions about a limited theatrical release here in America. That's why the DVD release was delayed.

In regards to the Silent Hill movie...woot!
