Videogames that you'd like to see made into movies.

A good animated movie based on Super Mario Bros. might be fun. Zelda and Metroid are no-brainers. And I would die for a good movie based on the original Final Fantasy.

Oh, and a Lord of the Rings: Return of the King movie. That game rocked. :D

Would that be like 8-bit theatre, only animated? Personally, I don't think they can make a better FF movie than they have already made.

Half Life
I dunno. The best thing about Half-Life is that you see the whole story only through Gordon's eyes. I don't think any movie could pull off that experience well, and I doubt any studio would try and use the game's approach. That said, I don't think a typical movie storytelling method would do Half-Life justice.

Translating video games to movies well is tough. A good movie usually has a pretty strong plot and a small group of main characters. A good video game can have no main characters, one main character, or dozens of equally-important characters. A good video game can have a very thin plot (or no plot at all beyond "blow everything up that's not you").

And let's not forget this movie either...

I'll take just about any Nintendo Property as a movie. Mario Bros (done right), Legend of Zelda/Adventures of Link et al, Metroid, Sonic (yes its a nintendo property now).

As for Planecape Torment, just go watch Momento...that movie looks to have been heavily inspired by Planescape torment, sans mort.

aren't they making an American Magee: Alice movie? Thought I read that somewhere....

Another choice for a good movie would be the background of the original Red Alert game:
a pair of scientists (let's leave Einstein out of it) go back in time and eliminate Hitler, thinking to make the world a better place. They return back to the RA timeline... right in the middle of a battle. One of the scientists gets wasted by a Tesla Tower, and the other has to find Einstein to reverse his error and put the world back on the original timeline....

A Red Alert movie would be pretty sweet.

But here's something I never got about RA. Nikolai Tesla came to America during World War I. So why do the Russians have the Tesla Tower, if eliminating Hitler only prevented World War II?

It's a computer game.
