Vile Poverty

And on a game play side

Aus_Snow - I like the idea a great deal, particularly for the examples wuyanei gave above. However I have to say the implementation is a little dull. I don't mean any offense to you by that but it reminds me of the 'Good Poisons' in the BOED - just an attempt to arm the other side of the moral compass with the same weapons. What I'd like to see would be something where it gives them a really different set of abilities. The problem is that I really don't see how as your proposals all work well and seem to fit with what I think you're getting at. Ultimately the feats give them a chance at some flavour and the vile strike/damage reduction is just uping their combat effectiveness. Maybe it would be worth saying that you have to select certain feats according to who your 'sponsor' is - so beastial stuff for a Malarite civilization hater and more tyrannical type things for the champion of the 'spartan' church. That makes the player character have to fit in with the ethos of whoever is providing his power - where a good VOP sponsor may be less likely to care about the method than the motive.

Aus Snow: I'm also running a low magic setting (I tossed out whole sections of the RAW to do this). What changes were you thinking of making? I've already had to rewrite Words of Creation because they didn't fit what I was doing exactly right. I think my players have seen a whopping 5 magic items, not counting their Ancestral Relics (BoED).

I also agree that POWWAH would be the ultimate objective for someone taking this feat. In what way would you attempt to rebalance this/tone it down?

Goblyns Hoard - Yeah, I know exactly what you mean, and no offense taken. So, hence the "basic initial plan" disclaimer in the 1st post. Things have been a bit hectic of late, so I've not had the chance to go much further with it.

Thia Halmades - I generally only do low-magic (but with 'low-magic-item-count' as the first priority), by D&D's standards at any rate. I use a frequently updated many-page document full of nothing but rules changes, plus the various supplements and other sources that are referenced therein. In addition, for each particular world, further refinements or complete overhauls may be required. It's a punishing process (cue violins), but I feel that the result is worth the effort. I've noticed that I'm hardly the only one, even on these boards, who essentially does this.

So, to cut a long story short, albeit a bit late, it's not so much changes I'm planning to make, as changes I've made already, for the most part.
