Villains and Vigilantes comes back

I'm wondering if this was the version that I playtested so many years ago when Jeff and Jack were trying to get the rights and then released online as the Advanced Rules, when buying the V&V rights fell apart and Jeff moved to the current Living Legends system.
I can tell you that no, they are not new rules. The version just published is what they are calling Villains & Vigilantes v2.1. It is basically the second edition rules with typos fixed and a few things added in the appendices. All new artwork inside, new layout, with plans to publish new material to supplement it.

Looks like Jeff has decided not to use the V&V Rules Upgrade in favor of going with the original (well, the 1982 Revised Edition) version. I'm ok with that. The Upgrade could still be used by those who wish, of course :)

I guess a rising tide does raise all boats, with DC Heroes, Icons, and a bit before that the Supers versions of Savage Worlds.

In addition to the release of the rulebook, there are two new adventures available (one's a free download, and the other is a conversion from the Living Legends system). A new source book from FGU, called Citizen Report, and a couple of new adventures on the way. The first is Enter the Gene Pool, from FGU, and should be out next week. Jack Herman's got a book in the works, at Monkey House Games, and there are a couple of books in production at FGU.

Even more stuff

Jeff Dee just confirmed that Bill Willingham, of Elementals, Fables, and JSA, is working on a project for V&V. He's already turned in the script, and it's in production. Over at FGU, the next release is titled The Neptune Line. Lots of V&V goodies are coming down the pipe, over the next few months.

Okay, now that I've finally had the opportunity to read through Danger in the Depths 1 & 2, two latest V&V releases, here's my very quick review. When played together they combine to form more of a mini-campaign, than an actual one shot adventure. In addition to the standard adventure, they've included a number of new optional rules as well as stats a number as sea creatures. They also introduce a new race of aquatic humanoids, a couple of possible new allies, and several new villains. Overall, I really enjoyed them, and hope to have the opportunity to run them for a group at some point.

If it requires a calculator, it's not easy math.

To me, this is my baseline as to whether to play or reject a game now. If I can't make a character and calculate everything on the character sheet in my head, I don't play anymore.

That being said, I did love me V&V back in the day. Great character gen system. Broken as all hell, but lots of fun.

I can cube in my head. That means I can play. Xp
