Vitality/Wound Points in D&D

It does take some tweaking to work right for a medieval style game. Its not too hard to take all the pieces other people have created and weave together something that suits your game. For instance one of these systems has WP double each size increase. Another i saw had them go up 50% per size. Its really just about looking around and seeing what bits each DM likes.

No, only if you want to balance the game afterwards, it gets hard. ;)

Problem is, that many of these options totally change the way the game mechanics work and this will automatically create a lot of imbalances, which then would need to be rebalanced. Unless, of course, you don't really aim for a balanced system, than it's not much of an issue.

Lol didnt you ever want to sit down and make your own game? like the writers at Wotc and gurps and palladium, etc did? I do. I actually did. right now i am testing a grim and gritty type combat but everything else is done.
Guess it depends on what you enjoy, i love playing with systems and tweaking with numbers to see what comes out and to try to make the game able to do exactly what i want. Lol which is kinda funny, i run games that focus on storytelling. We rarely have more then one fight per session. But when math does come up i want it to be more simulation then the heroic, cinematic style of most games. But still able to have back and forth and uncertainty in the outcome. Much more dramatic that way.
I was reading an interview with steven king once. The interviewer asked him why he kept using dairy and other small maine town. He said "because the scariest things are the ones that feel normal and familiar, so you immerse yourself in the setting easily. Then you twist it. You take whats familair and normal enought to let the players really feel apart of it and twist it in a believable but horrific way. " That brings it home more. Thats why i go for simulation type combat, skills and magic. It immerses players in the story more.

I didn't say, that you cannot do it, I just said, that it is hard (or rather a lot of work) to do properly.
