Vlad the Impaler finally out from Avalanche

After a couple months delay, Vlad the Impaler: Blood Prince of Wallachia is now available from http://www.avalanchepress.com

It's supposed to be the definitive d20 guide to medieval Transylvania, with work-ups of Vlad the historical figure and Vlad as the fictional Count Dracula. Looks like a nice alternative to Ravenloft for a creepy campaign setting! :)

FROM THE AVALANCHE SITE DESCRIPTION:
In the highlands of South Eastern Europe, one name from antiquity still inspires fear in the populace. A name spoken in bed time stories to frighten children. A name that inspired hundreds of movies & books. A name that reaches up from the grave to terrify all who would speak it... Vlad The Impaler.

This definitive sourcebook on Medieval Transylvania includes historical information on the real man that was Vlad Tepes, as well as a host of information on the people of feudal Transylvania, their lives, their superstitions, and their battle the rid their homeland of the Ottoman Turk menace.

Vlad The Impaler also explores the historical foundation for the vampire myth, and gives Game Masters the option of enhancing their campaign with Vlad Tepes or Vlad Dracula.. or both!

$16.95, 64 pages, with the typical scantily-clad cover art.

Vlad The Impaler also includes a stand alone setting adventure that can be integrated as a sequel to The Last Days Of Constantinople.

Cool. So, who exactly is Vlad "impaling", IKWYIMAITYD? Inquiring minds want to know!

Given the previous covers from Avalanche, I think that's a given...

vlad the impaler has his enemies partically impaled on a stake burried in the ground. as the enemy go tired or weak from blood loss the victoms own weight would drive more of the stake into them! .

And what are the chances of using the book of unlawful carnal knowledge with it?

I think you missed the double entendre.

I did a term paper back in college on Vlad the Impaler. Very in depth paper and tons of research.....got an A, but I think I scared the hell outta the teacher with it. :)

Speaking of Vlad and impalement. You know he also used various other means of torture and execution, right? Impalement was his fave though.

Once, two foreign ambassadors from Turkey came to visit Prince Dracula as political envoys from their country. They were granted an audience with Dracula, but refused to remove their hats, telling the prince it was one of their customs not to do so. But, in Wallachia, it was customary for all men to remove their hats in the presence of a prince.

When they chose to abide by their own custom and not that of Wallachia, Vlad ordered their hats nailed to their heads with three nails so that they could never remove them, thus always honoring their tradition and custom. Their bodies were removed from the court and sent back to Turkey.

:) I love that guy. :)

Man, I never knew that they had plastic surgery back in 15th century Eastern Europe. What fascinating tidbits you learn from these wonderful historically based supplements!!!
