Vlad the Impaler finally out from Avalanche

I will likely pick this up.

I used to run an Ars Magica campaign in the same milieu, and I'd like to see another treatment of the material.

The World of Darkness Transylvania supplement was no good. Here's hoping this one is.

Plus, I love the Avalanche covers:)

Disclaimer: I'm a completely open-minded, non-repressed and somewhat dirty guy. :)

And yet, I would not buy that product because of the absolute fromage cover. Avalanche Press consistently sits on the top of my list of 5 worst d20 publishers for having lost the plot long ago in terms of artistic representation. Is that Ozzy Osborne on the cover??? And his "companion" looks like she'd be just tickled to volunteer herself for the stake. Laaaaame.

What he said.

RE: hong - :)

I like the Avalanche covers, but the Vlad one isn't very well done. Hot babe, though! ;)

I'm buying it for the setting material---this is the setting I've always wanted, not all goofy "monster mash" like Ravenloft or goth angst-ridden like WoD, but a historically accurate and yet super-creepy and violent place! I think it's gonna rock (can't wait for my copy to arrive!).

Man, I never knew that they had plastic surgery back in 15th century Eastern Europe. What fascinating tidbits you learn from these wonderful historically based supplements!!!
Tidbits? Is that what you call 'em in the US these days?

Personally I would take the Avalanche historical series a lot more seriously if they sacked whoever it is doing their cover art.

I saw this book at my local shop, but I didn't get it, despite my interest in the subject matter. I don't care about the cover. What put me off it was The Last Days of Constantinople, which I bought. I didn't like it much at all; it was rather poorly done, in my opinion, and I'm leery of buying anything else by Avalanche because of it.

I once designed a campaign world that was a parallel, and very anachronistic, Europe. Arthur's Britain continued centuries past Arthur's death, due to some choices made at pivotal moments, and allied with Charlemagne's empire. They stood as bulwarks against the terror from Transylvania, Vlad, who had made eastern Europe a virtual Hell on Earth. It actually was pretty well-detailed, and included Saracens and the Golden Horde, but I put it aside years ago and never used it.

In my opinion the People at Avalanche press are doing their books a great disservice in their choice of cover art. The books are fantastic from the historical point of view but so many people that I talk to are completely turned away by the cover. On the other hand there covers have churned up quite a lot of conversation not a bad PR stunt, they have established an easily identified brand.
