Now T-Bill, you know I think you're a great guy despite being a Canucks fan :p (4 goals from Daniel Sedin?!? You're kidding right?!?). But I'm definitely in favor of limiting terms to 2-3 consecutive years, so that we can create a system which fosters a slightly larger turnover ratio in the judging panel. I don't think we can know how good another panel would be unless we find oursleves in a situation which deviates from the status quo by more than roughly one person each year. And I do believe that there are other qualified candidates available and willing to serve as judge within this community.

That said, I'm not going to debate the incredible quality of past or current panels. I have voted for most of you this year or previously, and do so because you are deserving of votes under the current system. As much as I want a seat on the panel myself, I will continue voting for those I deem most worthy while quietly working to effect a change in the existing system.

FDR may have been a great U.S. President, but there is a reason his tenure in office spurred the institution of term limits for that office. As it correlates to ENnies judging, I'd say that panel uniformity each year means it is somewhat more likely that similar products (or products which accomplish similar "things") win time and again. Just something to consider.

In any event, good luck to all as the final hours of voting approach!

What did I ever do to you? :p

Nothing dude, I even voted for you (and several others who who probably be prohibited from running)...

Havign the same people on year after year runs the risk of resulting in the same sorts of products being chosen. As i said this is a principle not a problem with the previous judging. I voted for 9 people, but 4 of them were either TB of staff reviewers.

I jsut think it would be interesting to share it round. Especially since the actual voting is done by all of us, the selection of matierials, while a lot of work and crucial, doesn't actually need the level of technical knowledge that some people are suggesting. Although I could be wrong having never done this, that's just how it would seem to me.

What will be interesting is if one the established staff reviewers of TB drop out next year. There's a big gap that would need to be taken up if that happened.

I also think (and this has nothing to do with the people involved, only a matter of principle) that there could be a limit on the number of years people can be judges. 3 sounds good to me...

No way, man! Let the people decide who deserves to be in there one year, three years, or ten years.

People are obviously in strong agreement with the incumbent judging panel over which products deserve awards. Therefore the judges are doing a good job.

Thus, the judges will likely be re-elected the next year and the next year and the next year until Real Life forces their retirement or they come up with some hideously unpopular decisions and are not voted back in.

I don't see a problem with this system.

Being an ENnies judge is not a reward; neither is it a right. The judges provide a service for which they are rewarded. There is only a limited number of positions.

Incumbency is a fact of life - If somebody does a good job, they should have the right to keep that job.

Like your mother (or whoever) used to say: "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

I spend my hard-earned on gaming products from time to time and if something wins an ENnie, I'm more likely to buy it, since I expect that the ENnie means I am less likely to be disappointed with the product than a product without any endorsement.

So it makes financial sense for me to continue electing judges I know will vote according to criteria that make sense to me.

And if I have to risk disappointing some stooge who thinks the world owes him 15 minutes of fame, I probably won't miss too much sleep.

I agree with Snoweel - the system works pretty well. Based on their past track records, we know the 4 incumbants/repeat judges will do a good job, and the new winner this year seems incredibly qualified.

I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me. I was not expecting to get as many votes as I did.

I also want to say congratulations to the five judges selected. I know you guys will do a good job.

Congratulations to Teflon Billy, Psion, Crothian, Joe Kushner and Cthulhu's Librarian. Would you guys please join me in the private ENnies forum, which you'll find at the bottom of the page near Meta? Thanks!

As back-ups, in case one or more of the above drop out, we have BigFreakinGoblinoid and CRGreathouse.
