What will be interesting is if one the established staff reviewers of TB drop out next year. There's a big gap that would need to be taken up if that happened.

I also think (and this has nothing to do with the people involved, only a matter of principle) that there could be a limit on the number of years people can be judges. 3 sounds good to me...

While I'm fairly busy these days, I promise I'll still do a fine job.

What next, a salary cap?

While it might be nice for all the boys and girls to have a turn, I'm planning a dynasty.

I think reviewers should keep the job for life and then have their firstborn children take on the mantle.

Every year someone brings up not allowing me to run the following year...

What did I ever do to you? :p

He he, it was my only criteria of voting... I voted everyone except myself and whoever has been judge before. Am I CE?

People change out every year. The Colonel didn't join the fray this year of his own decision, but I think we'll manage. There are lots of good folks here at ENWorld, and I think an injection of fresh blood can be a good thing.

I almost didn't submit myself this year, but for certain reasons decided to go ahead. Cheif among them that last year, we had quite a discussion about how to change certain things in the ennies, and I would like to see some of those ideas come to fruition, and wanted to be involved in that.

well, name recognition and attitude aside, i tended (without realizing it) to vote for folks i met and respected. and liked (well, maybe not teflon william ;) ).

it is an imperfect system, but it does tend to favor people who are "involved" on the same level i am :)

Not many people are involved on the same level you are. Mr. giving out prizes to good causes, making cool D&D clay things, and just being a neat guy. Those are hard standards to live up to. You shouldn't be so harsh on the judges.

btw, once I get my tax return I'm going to want one of those huge d20s.

You mean aside from (deservedly) keeping your butt in a chair that 35 people want? :)

There's some validity to the point, though. Look at the lineup. It looks like it will be you - who have been on the panel every year we've had one. Then three EN World staff reviewers, and one outsider. The majority of you have been on the panel before.

If you're looking for the absolute best in judging competence, We've probably got it (and perhaps we only need to run elections when one of you old-timers no longer want the job).

If you're looking to get a broader view of EN World opinion, and share the wealth of this opportunity around, then the current system isn't working quite as well. From this point of view, from 2002 through 2004 you and Psion together will have filled 40% of the judging seats. In those years, just over half the judging will be done by three people. Not a whole lot of variety there.

In the end, what you'd prefer depends rather on what you think the ENnies should be. It's hard to choose between getting the technically best judging and sharing the wealth.

The ENnies are an award and individual wealth shouldn’t even come to mind. I want the best judging pure and simple.
