Well, I feel close to breaking into the ranks of the esteemed ENnies judging panel. However, reality indicates that my vote total would need to double for me to be a serious contender.

Is a late surge of monumental proportions in the cards? I hope so.

And FWIW, I think that name recognition is certainly a contributing factor in the election process. But this year, I'd say that "campaign speeches" have proven more valuable than mere familiarity. IMO that's a pretty good thing overall.

Can I also point out that name recognition =/= popularity contest.

Take Psion, for example. I've seen him around here since early 2001. I recognise his name. I also find the guy nearly unbearable; his every post rubs me the wrong way and his self-importance is almost tangible.

That said, if I'm undecided as to whether or not I should buy a particular product, I head straight to d20 reviews and pray to God that Psion has reviewed the book in question - reviews by anyone else are taken with a grain of salt, but imo, Psion's evaluation of d20 products is gospel.

He's never let me down, and for this reason, he got my vote along with Teflon Billy (whose opinion I respect) and Quickbeam (just because I like the guy).

With the possible exception of Joe, I think all the voting is based on how cool your moniker sounds when you read it aloud....
;)

This is a meta-post...

How's this one? ;)

Thanks for the kind words and your vote -- the feeling is mutual. Hopefully you respect my opinions too, although I'm no T-Bill ;).

As for Psion, well his reviews are pretty darn candid, reliable and fair-minded...and his post in reply to your remarks may be his funniest ever.

Thanks again Snoweel!!

I would have to agree with Snoweel. I placed my votes based on who I thought could do the job based on the value I place on their posts, reviews, and so forth. I, like so many gamers, have a natural resentment for "the popular crowd" so I refused to vote for people just because they were well known and well liked in the hardcore ENworld community. However I do value the opinions of some of those more recognizable folks, so they got my vote because they earned it.

I wanted to run for this myself. I can't think of a bigger or better honor than to be chosen to bear the huge responsibility of being a judge. But based on how rarely folks seem to reply to my topics/posts or notice me at all, I figured I would be a long shot at best. Maybe next year... :)

I'm sorry that I brought up the whole name recognition & post count argument thing..

Don't be. No harm was done. And it pays to discuss and examine what different people feel is going on in the process.
