Choosing to defet to someone elses's judgement is as legitimate a way of forming an opinion as any.

Sorry, but I'm an empirical evidence kind of guy. I don't think taking someone else's word for it is as solid a basis for an opinion as actually looking at the thing yourself. Voting based on the opinions of others would seem, to me, to be like deciding that I like Thai food because others like it, when I've not tasted it myself.

The opinions of others are good for figuring out if you want to use your hard-earned money and/or time developing your own opinion. I have this quirk in my head that says that your vote should be your own, well-founded opinion, and not the opinions of others cobbled together.

Thanks for those titles, Billy. The smile is still on my face. You rock. :D

Well, there is no system installed for policing peoples reasons for voting. They are free to roll dice, flip coins, vote based on what their cat likes etc. It is a public vote.

While that's true, I'm not sure I see why it is relevant. This is a discussion of how people might vote in the face of lack of information. It is clearly not a discussion of enforcing any particular one methodology over others.

Then start a thread and tell us what we nominated that should not have been, and what should have been nominated instead.

Of all the books that are nominated, I own only two.

Of the rest, many of them I have heard of, but since the few local bookstores that do carry RPGs only carry WotC, I've never even glanced thru them. And to be honest, if it is not d20, it is going to have to try harder to get my money right now.

And the remaining books, I never heard of them before and if there are that many new books I've never seen, I am probably not the best person to pick nominies.

Getting Informed

Already over 1,000 people have voted. For those who haven't yet (you've got until the 8th of August IIRC), and don't own all of the books/products, here's some hints.

  1. Check out the ENnie Nominated Products Sale at DTRPG. By buying one of the products, not only do you get to add a fabulous book to your collection, you support the nominated publishers. DTRPG isn't getting a cut of the action for this sale- all the money goes to the publisher.
  2. Visit your FLGS and check out the books. Tell the owners about the ENnies while you're at it. Feel free to print out the flyer
  3. Visit the company web sites. Many of the sites have additional specials, and may be clever enough to put up sample work. At the very least, you should be able to check out the covers!

Muse of Fire, actually. The top page is me too, but it's me in my video-editing, animation capacity. The link here goes to the RPG stuff.

EDIT: And, for what it's worth, I think got Denise the wrong information. So, totally all my fault, no error on their part, just me chasing down my own errors.
