Vow of Poverty

When you really get down to it, and when you really try to play an exalted Monk at 1st level with absolutely no possessions, you're going to be getting your ass handed to you on a regular basis.
I didn't. :)

Think about making a 1st-level Monk with the Vow of Poverty. They're gonna suck. Level 2, they're gonna suck. Level 3, suck. 4- suck. 5- eh, still suck. Until they get into the upper levels, they're going to suck BIG time, and there'll be absolutely nothing you can do about it.
In fact, my VoP monk kicks some serious ass at second level and he did the same at first.

What could a first or even second level monk own that beats a +4 AC?

What could you buy at second level that beats Intuitive attack?

At 3rd level, your companions will be playing with +1 toys... You'll have +5 AC, your Wis bonus to attack (from IA) and ravaging foes with touch of Golden Ice.

4th level? Exalted strike (magic). You finally got your +1 thingie (maybe what, 2 levels after the others?) but yours cannot be lost nor destroyed, unless you loose the feat. Plus an exalted feat.

What would yu have as possession that would match this?

It's for higher levels (12th-20th) that I'm concerned. But I love to get tons of cool abilities so I'll be happy even if a bit useless... ;)

But I don't think my contribution will ever be called useless. On paper, it looks very promising. :)

What about a sorceror with VoP ? Is it viable ? Is there something he looses ?

The huge boost to primary stat sure helps... what says you ?

You would lose the potential for spells that require expensive components... and magic items and their ilk of course.

The way I play sorcerors, I wouldn't suffer from the no-expensive-components thing (I can do without those spells).

What I was wondering about, is that are there magic items that are important to sorcerors that are note replicated by the VoP's benefits ?

Nothing that is absolutely essential. Things like metamagic rods arent bad though.

The things that are hard to replace
- bracers of armor +1 and light/medium/heavy fortification
- ring of wizardry's
- ring of evasion

Could someone with VoP make something and keep it?

Could a sorcerer with a high enough craft make a masterworked wooden staff (the wood would be free), and then enchant it with his own spells? Or would he have to give it away as soon as it was enchanted, even though he put his own power into it.

Even if he could keep the masterwork staff, he would struggle to enchant it because of the gp cost. Sure, he could use XP instead, but it'd be a lot of XP!

Assuming I'm reading it right, of course.
