Walled City of Babymania

An interesting blog which calls most comic book store owners "babymen", and refer to their stores as "walled cities".

Snippit:
"I don't expect the babymen to ever see what I'm talking about, they can't. But the fact is their taste is not the taste of a large pool of average readers, it's the taste of the fetishist, the niche collector. They so resist change and want such a limited type of product that unless you have been following this stuff for years it's really not something the average reader could even get into."

Most of his rant being in reaction to fan reaction to the new Batman animated series. Most of which seems to be hate hate hate directed at the fact that the only bit of teaser art released for the series has Batman done in a slightly more simplistic art style than present(though who knows what the final art will look like) and his companions look like they're having a good time being superheroes.

While he could have chosen better language for that, he's correct in the most part. I will say that I do have a high resistance to change when it comes to comics but the main reason for that is that the majority of what has passed for change over the past thirty years or so - and especially the past 10 - has been so bad. I wouldn't mind change at all if I had any degree of trust in the editors of most comics.
