Wands and Counterspelling

Got a question for y'all - recently in the game I'm in our party got ahold of a wand of dispel magic. I'm curious, can we use said wand to counterspell if you have an action readied to counterspell, etc?

I tend to say yes when this topic comes up, but if I remember correctly, I'm always proven wrong too. I also tend to say no to counterspelling a fireball with a wand of fireball, but again, I'm pretty sure I'm always proven wrong anyway.

Man, I need more coffee...
