There are a fair number of fantasy "sorcerers" who are not spell slingers in the sense that they throw fireballs, but they use magic to enhance their own abilities. Here's my take, ready for a race module (coming to RPGNOW...some day).
A few points-- it may be overpowered-- it probably is, although I've had no chance to test even the vanilla class. I don't want to take the flavor away from it, so my main thought is to reduce to the BAB to cleric levels, or the hit points to D6. It's supposed to be a class that can stand in the line of battle, so both would probably be too much.
The spell list and committed spell abilities aren't quite finished yet. However, when looking at the class keep in mind that the war sorcerer has very few spells or abilities that can effect an enemy at range, and those have to use some intermediate medium, such as an arrow. ALL direct spell effects are either self, or by touch. Committed spell effects normally act to enhance the war sorcerer rather than directly touch his enemy. (and if anyone wants to give their suggestions of what appropriate abilities would by by level, I'd be grateful-- I'm drawing a blank.).
Also, one other question-- should the war sorcerer be allowed to bond with a ranged weapon? I don't think it would interfere with the class--what do you think?
Now, without further adeiu...
And well hell, I can't seem to get the tables to disply right in HTML-- so here's a PDF.
