  • Blah! Warforged should NOT be in 4E at all.

What about warforged in MM1 ?
Developers have say that many "monsters" in MM1 will be decribed both as monster and as race (for example gnomes). So Warforged could be there too.
People who don't like them wouldn't feel compelled to use them, people who like them could use them since the beginning. A good compromise, isn't it?

Loathe them is an understatement on my feelings about Warforged I sincerely hope they aren't in the PHB I. If I wanted robot PCs I would be playing Star Wars not DnD.
Animated statues aren't robots. Dislike them for being playable constructs. Calling them robots isn't accurate, and as a rallying cry, it only speaks to those who already dislike warforged.

Warforged are not robots.

That said, they are one of the remarkably few things I dislike about Eberron (the other big one is Sharn -- I actually like the bullet trains and flying ships). I don't hate them with the fury of a thousand suns or anything. I just find them barely tolerable, even in Eberron. Having one of my players opt for one has only reinforced my attitude.

I would rather have rules for axiomatic dire flumphs in the PHB than warforged.

Warforged are a good idea, but the healing problem is just annoying. It basically pushes the class' downside off on somebody else.

I dislike the whole android thing.
But I really hate quite completely the implementation of Warforged much moreso than the idea.
You can argue that their pluses and minuses balance out. But if the pluses and minuses are excessive (and they are) then they still screw up the game even if the total is zero.
If they are constructs then freaking make them be constructs. Instead they shoe-horned an idea to force fit it into a 1st level playable race. And IMO it is a mismatch that destroys the underlying concept without even achieving the goal of a decent +0 LA race.

Now, they have made some vague statements about racial advancement in 4E. So it seems not out of the question that whenever 4E warforged come around they will be re-imagined with better success.

But I still won't be at all interested in androids.

With a little insane luck maybe they will do a new 4E setting in a year or two and warforged will become part of the history along with Thri-kreen...
