Warhammer FRP 1e vs 2e

The setting is only slightly later than 1E - it takes place not long after the wrap up of Empire in Flames, and there are quite a few references to events from the Enemy Within campaign in the 2E corebook. If anything, the Chaos war has heated up after a massive incursion that left much of Kislev and the North in ruins. Middenheim has just barely survived a dire seige and the Knights Panther are in the field with Graf Boris chasing down the retreating armies of Chaos.

Strength and Toughness are now computed from percentile scores - basically you take the first digit, like 35 -> 3, and that's your S or T score for combat. The range has expanded obviously, with 3 being about the basic human average now. Advances are by 5% increments, so a human probably maxes out at around 8, I would think (I haven't worked it out, but it should be something like that).

What do you mean the war with Chaos is over? Isn't Chaos still infecting and creeping deeper and deeper into the world every day?

Oh yes - chaos is still THE enemy. It is just that the Empire has barely survived an assault from the minions of chaos under the chaos lord Archeron (sp?).

I hear what you are saying about a minor difference in abilities, but truly there is a huge difference in game between S3 and S2. Wounds have gone up a bit to compensate for the d10 damage die.

I am also with you on the issue of balance - balance is not important in WFRP in the same way it is in GURPS or 3E D&D. Folks who really want balanced characters where all characters are fairly matched should probably avoid WFRP - the game is much more concerned with flavor.

Yep. WFRP is dripping with flavour -- insanity-inducing, warpstone-caused flavour.

I'm very happy that 2e kept the random character generation system. It's part of the charm of the game that you can start out as a servant or rat-catcher, and someday become a High Priest or Champion -- unless the greenskins get you first, that is.

How useable would the beasts from the 1e set be with this new edition? Would they work with minor conversion?
There is a download that provides converstion from 1e to 2e and yes minor, stats and just effect. You can visit the black industy fan site and see some conversions from the book.
