Warhammer FRPG returning...

I ran a pretty long WFRP campaign in high school (11-12 years ago) with an all dwarf group. They were five brothers. The "Bones" family. Gnarly and Shatter are the only two characters I can remember and Gnarly had a penchant for getting the "Exploding Entrails" critical very often when he fought with his Knuckle Dusters. Absolutely hilarious! Granted, Except for the names and the roll of laughter every time Gnarly got his crit, it was a pretty grim game.

WFRP will NOT be D20, as per the Faq: http://www.blackindustries.com/faq.htm

Thank goodness.... I think the entire "Feel" of Warhammer would be ruined if it were D20.

Best Farggin' News in a LOOOOONGGG Time.

I have, and always will be, a major advocate of WFRP. It's my favorite fantasy game of all time. This is friggin' AWESOME!

Darn. Just lost the post I wrote.

To sum up? Cautiously optimistic. The system was (and still is) great, and it has some of the easiest rules ever. Still easier to learn than 3.5...

But the Warhammer World as written at present is a bit worrying. Dwarven Gyrocopters were always an anomaly you could work around, but imperial steam tanks, sniper rifles and skaven with friggin' lightning cannon do make the whole 'grim 'n' gritty' Warhammer world I came to know and love rather difficult to manage.

I hope that Green Ronin will improve WHFRP to be a worthy competitor to D&D 3.5.

That is indeed the plan. I love WFRP but it's been nearly 20 years since it came out and the system really deserves a new edition.

I have fond memories of playing WHFRP in high school. Our band of misfits included a cattle thief, a minstrel, and a pair of brothers ratcatcher. :p

The reasons listed in the FAQ you linked do not include that as a reason for the choice of system. I think the reasons they do list are good ones, and I agree and heartily applaud such a move.

But if you're trying to say that the "feel" of Warhammer can't be replicated in d20, I really don't believe that. And if you want to talk about it, I'd love to start a new thread specifically about that, as a matter of fact. I think it'd be an interesting discussion.

Good news. Whether a new edition or not, it makes me happy for WHFRP to be in-print.

(I'll also say: I, too, am still waiting impatiently for an updated/expanded Dragon Fist.)

This is the best news I've heard all week. There's no one in the industry better suited for this monumental task than Chris Pramas. His passion for WHFRP easily matches his enthusiasm for d20, and we've all seen what Green Ronin is capable of in that arena.

Here's hoping these games are wildly successful and grant Green Ronin the kudos and bushels of money they so richly deserve.

And, since Chris already works with folks like Graeme Davis (Shadows over Bogenhafen), you know the products will at least match the impossibly high standards set by the original line.

Oh, one last thing. With the artistic standards set by the Mutants & Masterminds game (the Nocturnals book looks AMAZING) and a nearly endless library of awesome Warhammer images, I expect these books to look absolutely beeeeoootiful.

Congrats, Chris. I'll be one of the first people in line for the new game.
