Warhammer FRPG returning...

Pleasantly surprised

This is great news. I hope they don't make too many changes; having spell casters advance at a rate comparable to the other character classes could be disastrous. More concrete rules for non-combat skills would be nice.

Some months back, when I knew that Hogshead wasn't making WFRP stuff anymore, I went to the Games Workshop store across the street from work just to see if they had any of the RPG books. I figured they wouldn't, but there was no harm in looking. So I walk in and the guy asks if he can help me find anything.

"By any chance, would you have any of the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay books?"

He gives me a snotty look and says "No. No way are they ever gonna bring that back. It was a terrible idea."

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to print out that Green Ronin press release and staple it to that guy's forehead.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!

The original WHFRPG was the first RPG I bothered to learn the rules for, and the setting is one of the most colourful ones I've ever seen. Granted, most of the colours are either dark tones or blood red, goblin green or tentacle pink, but...

I just wish they can retain the original feeling of the setting. As far as dark fantasy goes, I'll take Warhammer over Midnight or Ravenloft any day. If they can keep that, Green Ronin has my wallet.

I'll help. :D

Its been a long time since i've played in the Old World. I can't wait for the new edition to come out. Freakin Green Ronin. You guys are on fire!!

The only problem is that it may drag me from D20/D&D a bit (or even a lot!).

The only problem, as always, about getting this kind of news is that now I've got to wait a year to get the book. My player's and I have tried a lot of games in the past 24 years. But D&D and WHFRP are the only two we keep coming back to.

I'm looking forward to seeing the the updated rules and am glad that it is not d20. I like d20, but I loved Warhammer because it wasn't like D&D. I wonder if the rule book will continue to be the one monstrous volume as before or will it be split into smaller books. I liked the big book. Back in the 80's I went into sticker shock when I had to shell out $40.00 for the book. But it was just too cool to pass up.

I don't know if I will play but I'll definitely buy it, even if just to check out the rules changes and the like, and for nostalgia value. I'm one of the people in the early 30's cohort for whom WFRP was the RPG of choice back in the mid to late 80's in high school.

I wonder how different the system is going to be. I mean they could build something on the bones of the old, just addressing the problems (slow advancement for casters, how it breaks down at the 10+ career level and characters start to look the same) or build something totally new.

Hey Chris!

So are you just revising the existing system, or are you completely overhauling it and/or basically making a new system?

And will there be any d20 conversion rules for players who want to import/export warhammer material into or out of d20 games?

Anyway, congrats to Green Ronin! :)

Oh my ghod, this is awesome.

Awesome, awesome, awesome.

But the Warhammer World as written at present is a bit worrying. Dwarven Gyrocopters were always an anomaly you could work around, but imperial steam tanks, sniper rifles and skaven with friggin' lightning cannon do make the whole 'grim 'n' gritty' Warhammer world I came to know and love rather difficult to manage.

This scares me too. Chris, how tied to the WHFB game and it's idiocies are you going to be?

This is great news! And I'm glad to hear most people DON'T want Warhammer FRP to go d20.

Last thing we need is d20 to rape another great, unique system that complements the flavour of the world presented.

Sure, Warhammer FRP has some problems and definitely needs an update, but d20? Over my dead body! (Oh, I am dead.)

I'd even take offense if the new edition of WFRP had a d20 version presented along side it.

dead LOVES D&D, but one reason WFRP is great is because it's NOT D&D!
