Warhammer RPG campaign starting--what to buy?

I was going to edit my post, but then I am closing in on 900...

If anyone is curious about this setting, I suggest reading some of the Warhammer novels and short stories, especially the older works, many of which have been reprinted. I always look for work by Brian Craig, William King and Jack Yeovil and collections of short stories. The official novels that compliment the new version of the game are not bad, but, in my opinion, you cannot go wrong with collections and the original writers for the game. These books will give you a good feel of the setting, the humor and the horror that are present in the Warhammer world.

Any particular ones you'd recommend?

Only one I've read is Witch Hunter, and I loved it.

These I would say, rise above a lot of the Warhammer fantasy fiction:

Wolf Riders, Realm of Chaos, Laughter of Dark Gods, Way of the Dead, Swords of the Empire, Forged in Steel, these are all collections of short stories, not all are perfect, but there are a lot of gems in them.

Novels: The Orfeo Trilogy (Zaragoz, Plague Daemon and Storm Warriors), the Konrad novels and the Vampire Genevieve books (Drachenfels, Genevieve Undead, Beasts in Velvet and Silver Nails).

There are a lot more out there, but there is a lot of information for GMs and players alike in these books. The current supporting series (Death's Messenger and Death's City) are not bad at all, and there are a lot of background books, including the Loathsome Ratmen and are outstanding.

The other good part of Warhammer is the miniatures, if you run a game with them you can make virtually anything with the Games Workshop miniatures lines and there are a few good places online to find secondhand GW pieces. Sure, you need to paint them yourself, but that isn't that bad of a deal.

I don't play Warhammer but I like some of their miniatures and found this 1998 tome to be a fun read -

World of Warhammer: The Official Illustrated Guide to the Fantasy World

Here's a list of places where it is on sale, new and used, though some might be the listing for a newer, revised edition so I cannot vouch for them all -

Maybe someone else who plays can give you a better idea of the quality of this particular book and how it might fit in with the other books that have been suggested.

(The cover in the first link is the edition I have.)
