I will get this, as I am starting a new Warhammer campaign soon and might as well wait for the release of the new version, what is the release date again and has that definitely been confirmed ?

March 2005 and yes.

I am hardly a d20 shill or anything but at the same time I REALLY think this game would benefit from being d20.

Not me. While I do like d20, I think it works best when the campaign has strong archetypes and the characters rise rapidly in power - in other words, when it is D&D.

Warhammer isn't like that. It's about a bunch of losers who are looking for fame and fortune, get side-tracked by having to prevent a plot to destroy a city, a nation, or the world by nefarious forces, and end up dead, mad, or as futitives as a reward for their efforts. As someone once said it: "WHFRP is where the players start out thinking they are playing D&D, but are gradually realizing that they are in fact playing Call of Cthulhu!"

Or, directly from the new book:

"There are worlds where courageous heroes who stand for all that is good and righteous watch over populaces of decent folk who seek to enrich their own lives and better those of the people around them.

"This isn't one of those worlds."

Absolutely I'll purchase it even if I don't play it. I ran a Warhammer game for a couple of years that was a lot of fun. Still not sure why it fizzled out. I love the setting, the rules were useable but I mostly liked the intrigue. The old Warhammer mods were the first adventures I remember purchasing that really contained well-developed plots with unexpected twists and turns. My players always felt like they were on the verge of something big only to find out that they were only chipping away at the outer shell of a larger mystery. They were always on edge. I liked the grittiness of the environment. Didn't know an updated version was coming. That's great!

Where did you get a peak at the new book? I didn't see any previews on the link at the beginning of this thread.

I'm looking forward to it.

I've played many a game of Warhammer. My last character was a good old Giant Slayer working his way towards Dragon then Daemon Slayer (Ah, bless the old White Wolf magazine before it became a house organ.)

However, d20 can easily do Warhammer. Black Company, Grim Tales, and Conan, all show different ways in which the d20 engine can be modelled in a method to allow players to have a Warhammer style campaign.

Heck, if Advanced Careers aren't PrCs in d20... and if some of those old things don't becomes feats in the new version (anyone remember Strike Mighty Blow or Very Strong)...

Isn't it White Dwarf magazine? Grim Tales and Conan are excellent examples of how d20 can be adapted to suit different style campaigns. But now I'm getting confused. Is the new Warhammer RPG being adapted to d20, or are they revising the old ruleset?

White Wolf magazine, back in the day, used to do a lot of coverage of many game systems.

Then it became Inphobia and sucked and died as it deserved to.

The new edition of Warhammer will be a revision of the original game. I was just pointing out that there is nothing inherent in the d20 engine that prevents it from simulating a Warhammer style campaign. Just add exploding dice and fate points and you're covered. ;)
