Warlord At-Will Powers level 1 via June Preview

Unless we were deprived of Epic tier scaling on the powers, yes, his shouting command thingumajig seems to be rendered useless at level 21.

Let us hope this is not the case.

I doubt it's useless, but it's possibly less useful.

That said, I'd not be surprised if basic attacks also get double weapon value at 21st, much like high crit weapons add extra dice with each tier - if they don't, that's like a nerf to opportunity attacks in epic.

Since some attack powers seem to be able to replace basic attacks (note that magic missile and eldritch blast count as basic ranged attacks), the warlord may be getting a damage boost at 21st level via a boost to his allies' powers.

A warlord emphasizing INT and/or CHA over STR will probably love this ability, since A) the bonus damage will be higher, and B) the warlord's STR will likely be lower than that of the fighter type in the party, so the ally's attack bonus and damage bonus will be higher. Similarly, it allows a warlord to potentially do Greatsword damage (from his friend) while still getting the benefits from a shield or other less damaging weapon (say, with reach).

Is it universally useful? No. But as long as there's someone in the group with a better basic attack than the warlord, then it will probably come in handy.

Here you go. It seems to me that the statement is unequivocal. The warlord has to be in melee range in order to use the power.

It is, he does. But then, it seemed unequivocal just reading the power description, since the word 'melee' was position in several key places.

But, anyway, I do think the power has its uses, but it (thankfully) isn't a now-brainer ability. It definitely strikes me as better than cleave is for the fighter, though wolf pack and tide of iron make for a nice set of complementary abilities for two front line characters.
