Warlord vs. Str. Cleric

When 4th edition launched we decided to convert the 3.5 game we were currently playing in. I was playing a high-elf Cleric and I was faced with the choice of converting to an eladrin cleric or warlord (tactical) as these 2 classes were closest to the flavour of the character I was playing. In the end I went with the cleric because one of my party members chose to convert his noble classed (yes, out of the DMG, we're VERY casual) into an inspiring warlord as he felt it suited him best.

I'm happy with my choice and it appears my warlord friend is as well. As an eladrin cleric I actually benefit from the free longsword proficiency and I have taken light & heavy shield proficiency, eladrin soldier and student of the sword to very closely mimic the sword and board combat cleric I had been playing. I am effective in combat and not afraid to mix things up but I think it is noticeable that my encounter and daily powers often do less damage than the warlord's.

It is easier for me to use my powers in combat to hinder my opponents and aid my allies than it often is for the warlord but I don't have a single power that deals 3W. I don't think the difference is significant but the warlord's encounter and daily powers do hit harder than the clerics.

I am using Healing Strike (2W), Split the Sky (1W), Avenging Flame (2W) and Rune of Peace (1W). The warlord's encounter powers do 2W damage and his dailies do 3W if I recall correctly. Maybe the warlord's extra damage was designed to help balance the warlord's personal lack of benefit from the powers he uses in combat.
