Warmage Edge

This one seems similar to the Psionic Feat Power Specialization. Does anyone else think that a bonus of +2 damage to 10d6 damage not worth a feat?

Warmage Edge is actually you Int bonus to all your damage spells, plus there's a feat that cranks this even more (depending on level, up to 4 or 5 more IIRC).

I agree that a straight +2 damage is a waste of a feat.

We do. If I Empower a fireball I will do (10d6+10)*1.5.

We are correct in doing so ?

As much as I'd like to say yes, no.

PHB 3.5 said:
Empower Spell You can cast spells to greater effect.
Benefits: All variable, numeric effects of an empowered spell are increased by one half. An empowered spell deals half again as much damage as normal, cures half again as many hit points, effects half again as many targets, and so forth, as appropriate. For example an empowered magic missile deals 1 1/2 times its normal damage (roll 1d4+1 and multiply by 1 1/2 for each missile). Saving throws and opposed rolls (such as the one you make when you cast dispel magic) are not affected, nor are spells without random variables. An empowered spell uses up a spell slot two leels higher than the spell's actual level.

I don't think the Warmage Edge counts as a variable effect. So, I believe that you should be adding the Edge after the empower effect; that's what we do.

Nope, you are incorrect. The text of the feat says that cures affect half as again as many HP, correct. Therefore, the effects of an Empowered Cure Serious Wounds spell would be (4d8+10)*1.5, not 4d8*1.5 + 10

I agree that the edge is not multplied, but for a different reason. Warmage edge says that "he [the warmage] adds his Intelligence bonus (if any) to the amount of damage dealt." The way it is worded, the spell itself doesn't do any extra damage, the damage is added to the spell effect. Therefore, the extra damage is not an effect of the spell, but rather, an effect of the warmage ability, and is not multiplied in with Empower Spell.

If it said that "spells the warlock cast deal an extra amount of damage equal to the warmage's Intelligence bonus (if any)", I would say that you multiply it with Empower.

As a DM, I would have players multiply the damage, because in my opinion, that ability is pretty weak, except at very low levels.

In regard to the original question, the damage is added before the save, because it is added to damage dealt, not damage taken.
deal damage: Cause damage to a target with a successful attack. How much damage is dealt is usually expressed in terms of dice (for example, 2d6+4) and may have a situational modifier as well. However, damage dealt by a weapon or spell does not necessarily equal damage taken by the target, because the target may have special defenses that negate some or all of the damage.
take damage: Be affected by damage (either lethal or nonlethal) from a successful attack. Damage dealt by an opponent does not necessarily equal damage taken, since various special defenses may reduce or negate damage from certain kinds of attacks.
