Was I a jerk?

My recommendation is to negotiate a settlement before the next session. Try to get someone whose job is just to look up rules if there's any question. Some people will balk at the slightest delay in their role-playing experience, but if you've got a group that is at all interested in the gaming aspect, well, it's not like it's fun to overcome challenges if your dm is going to arbitrarily have you succeed or fail without regard to an objective standard.

By the 3rd example you were being a jerk. Of course it sounds like your DM was being a jerk in the first, second and third examples. He was flat out wrong in the first and third situation as you were in the second. Is this a new group you have joined recently? The DM's comments that "you're not playing with new players here" makes me think this. If so you might want to learn the house rules (if any) of the DM and get clarification on situations like this. This should be handled away from the gaming table and in as relaxed a manner as possible.

Yeah, I just joined the group.

And a check that she automatically succeeds is not the same thing as a check that she doesnt have to make. hehe. you get my meaning? I'm playing a warlock (SLA) in the next game, and wanted to see how he was adjuciating Spell like abilities, because if you dont have to make a concentration check while riding a monster using SLA, thats nice to know. But otherwise, yes I agree after some point I became something of a nuisance. But there was just SO much wrong with him having the huge creature stomp the invisible halfling, no attack roll no save, even knowing the rule about sharing space etc. I probably WAS a little peeved. I have apologized already folks, dont get me wrong. And my point wasn't to get justification on my rules questions, i.e. Was I right? My point is I wrote him and said "So.. I shouldn't advocate for my character based on the rules of combat in the future?".. and I wanted to know if you people felt that advocating for your character is obnoxious.

What rule covers moving through someone else's space? There are three core rules: overrun, tumble, and the rule that says that creatures more two or more size categories apart can share a space.

I believe the DM is going to have to wing this since the Halfling is invisible and the contact is incidental; the core rules tend to refer to things that PCs do intentionally.

Tangent: How would people rule on this (which comes up all the time with high level parties):

Invisible PC Fighter moves down the hall. Invisible PC Wizard has lost track of the Fighter and accidentally attempts to move through him. Anything could happen; from the Fighter believing that the Wizard is an invisible enemy and resisting him to the Wizard catching the Fighter off-balance and knocking him over.

(I give both PCs a Reflex save and assume that they moved by successfully unless something catastrophic happens on the save. There's no rule that I can find that covers the case I listed; similarly I don't think the rules-as-written cover the Huge Beast v. Halfling case. Obviously, I'd give the Halfling a Reflex Save, but as I also get to choose the DC. ;-) )

I ask two things of my players:

1) Don't challenge my interpretations of the rules during the game (unless it involves a character's life) - talk to me afterwards or during a designated break.

2) I am not a rules expert and will make mistakes - I am willing to learn and be corrected.

I'm not an ogre (we prefer the term charismatically challenged) and I'm willing to listen to a player's concern during the game, but if the debate goes on for more than a minute or two, then it's time to continue play and discuss the problem after. Only once has a player refused to abide by these rules - he constantly questioned my decisions and was eventually encouraged to leave (by the other players, I might add, not me).

If you were in my game, I would have listened to your concern; if it could be resolved in a couple of minutes, we'd resolve the situation; if it required longer, we would have spoken after the game. At no time would I call you a jerk unless you insisted on continously interrupting the game.

Just my thoughts.
