Weapon Ego

Sorry Guys for some reason it wont let me use the search feature so I dont know if its been asked before.

In the DMG it states that when an intelligent weapon is at odds with its wielder, it can force it do certain things by forcing its will upon the wielder. The weapon (if it so desires) then forces its personality upon the subject and the subject must make a will save vs the weapons EGO. If the Subject makes its save, then the subject is the dominant one, if the Subject fails the weapon is the dominant one until certain situations warrant another roll. The question I have is, Does MR apply to a subject ability to resist the weapon? What about spells or psionics? It doesnt say in the DMG that any of these would protect a person from a weapons Ego.

DMG, p. 81:
"Only spells and spell-like abilities are subject to spell resistance."

Even though there's a Will save, you wouldn't get any help from SR, because this battle for control isn't the result of any spell or spell-like ability. There are plenty of other things that have saving throws but don't allow SR: poisons, diseases, Supernatural abilities, etc.

As for spells and psionics to block it, it'd probably depend on the specific spell you're asking about, but in general the answer would probably be no. It's not a spell, so no Spell Turning or Spell Resistance. Anti-Magic Field would probably work, but that's just because it'd shut off the entire sword. Protection from Evil would work if you can convince the DM that this battle for control is a Compulsion effect. And so on.
