Weapon size and reach madness.

Some agree, some disagree.

For example, some think that the potential to wield a spiked chain in each hand is horrifying.

Others think that spending three feats (Exotic Weapon Proficiency, Two Weapon Fighting, Oversized Two-Weapon Fighting) to wield two Small Spiked Chains dealing 1d6 20/x2 damage at a -4 on your attack rolls (-2 TWF, -2 Inappropriate size) isn't a big deal.

True but that probably is a reflection of the opinion on spiked chains themselves and not really on the relationship for using weapons of inappropriate size.

Also as you pointed out earlier it is no longer a reach weapon so the advantage of the spiked chain is somewhat lost when using a "smaller" than appropriate size. Well no reach further than the creature's normal reach (in this case none since it is a medium size creature with a small sized spiked chain).

I never pointed that out.

I said a Large creature requires a Reach weapon 'of the appropriate size'.

Reach Weapons: Glaives, guisarmes, lances, longspears, ranseurs, spiked chains, and whips are reach weapons. A reach weapon is a melee weapon that allows its wielder to strike at targets that aren’t adjacent to him or her. Most reach double the wielder’s natural reach, meaning that a typical Small or Medium wielder of such a weapon can attack a creature 10 feet away, but not a creature in an adjacent square. A typical Large character wielding a reach weapon of the appropriate size can attack a creature 15 or 20 feet away, but not adjacent creatures or creatures up to 10 feet away.

Medium creatures don't have the 'appropriate size' note, so as written, a Medium creature with a Small reach weapon still has 10' reach. Even if you use the proposed variant based on the Savage Species rules, he still gets 10' reach.

@Tempus_14: I'm unsure what you mean. The ripper and greatspear are two different weapons, so in what way do you wish to combine them?

What I mean is that one of our characters has a high craft:weaponsmithing skill and he is trying to forge a hybrid greatspear/ripper weapon, and its one tipped, and I do not know if I combine the damage on it from the two weapons merged or whatever.
